MECHANICAL TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 6, 1919.
Application filed February 1, 1919. Serial No. 274,456.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON M. MOORADIAN, residing at Brighton, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
This invention relates to mechanical toys in which the revolution of arms on a revolvin g shaft serve to operate mechanical figures placed upon the platform of a box.
My object in the invention is to provide a toy as specified above of simple, inexpen sive and durable construction, showing a number of figures each representing a tradesman at work. The figures chosen for this invention represent a tailor, a shoemaker, a carpenter and a blacksmith at work at a table, at a shoe-stand, at a table, at an anvil. Any figure having the same downward and upward motion ofthe arm representing other trades may be substituted in place of any one of these figures. Any number of figures may be placed upon the plat form or the present number may be reduced.
The machinery of this invention is so constructed that it produces the proper alternation of the strokes of the tools held by the toy figures.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view of the toy; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view showing the arm rod and its connecting numbers; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
The reference numeral 1 indicates a platform upon which is supported a shoe-stand 16 and a shoe l7 and at one side of the stand is a toy figure 6, an anvil block 10, and an anvil 11, and at one side of the anvil a toy figure 7, a table 18 with tools thereon, and at the side of the table is a toy figure 8, a table 12, and tools 13, 14, 15 and at one side of the table is a toy figure 9.
The arms 22, 23, 24, 25 of figures 6, 7, 8 and 9 are motionless and each hand holds the article to be worked on, said article which rests upon the table, upon the shoestand, upon the anvil, and upon the knee as shown in Fig. 1. The arms 26, 27, and 28 hold a hammer, the arm 29 holds a needle. The oscillating rod 30 is held in place at point 19 the other end having a crank arm 31 which is connected to the upper end of a rod 32. This rod extends down through the body of the figure and the leg of the chair and through an opening in the platform. The lower end of said rod being connected to a laterally extending member 34. One end of the oscillating rod 30 for figure 7 is held in place at point 19 the other end having a crank arm 31 which is connected to the upper end of a rod 37. This rod extends down through the body and the leg of the figure and through an opening in the platform. The lower end of said rod being connected to a laterally extending member 38. The revolving shaft 40 is arranged inside the box and is held in place at point 35, the other end extending through an opening at the side of the box and connected to a crank arm 39. The arms 41, 42, 43,44 revolve with the shaft. The revolving arm 42 presses down on the laterally extending member 34 and it pulls the rod 32 down, and raises the arm 26 of figure 6 at the same time the revolving arm 41 is raised off the laterally extending member 38 and allows the rod 37 to come down and lowers the arm 27 of figure 7, producing the alternate movement of the arms 26 and 27. The revolving arms 43, 44 are for figures 8 and 9 and the operation of their mechanism is similar to the above described. The shaft 50, with perpendicular arms arranged inside the box below revolving shaft 40, is secured at both ends to the sides of the box said perpendicular arms keeping the laterally extending members in place.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that which I claim is:
nected to the crank arm, a member extending transversely of the rod and operating mechanism comprising a shaft extending longitudinally through the casing having arms to engage the laterally extending members and oscillate the arms of the figures upon rotation of the shaft, a shaft with perpendicular arms arranged inside the casing below the revolving shaft secured at both ends to sides of the casing, said perpendi- 10 cular arms keeping the laterally extending members in place.
LEON M. MOORADIAN.
