THOMAS F. BALL, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
SCRAPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Pateted Apr. 15, 1919.
Application filed July 16, 1917. Serial No. 180,778.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. BALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertairs to make and use the same.
This invention relates to scrapers but more particularly to that class used for scraping meat blocks.
An Object of the present invention is to permanently secure a scraper blade in a hand-block so that it cannot work loose or become detached from the hand-block.
There are other devices that have been patented for scraping purposes where the blade is secured in the block by set screws or wedges, but they frequently need adjusting for the reason that they are cons'tantly working loose and at times become lost.
Another Object of the present invention is to secure a scraper blade to the hand-block by a single wire, the wire passing through the center of the blade being bent at a sharp angle on each side thereof toward the handblock and secured to the hand-block at an approximate angle of 45 degrees so that the :vire will form a very rigid and ermanent ase.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of the improved scraper.
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 1.
The rectangular shaped hand-block 4 has a transverse groove 5 cut therein for the insertion of the edge 6 of the blade 7 ,the blade 7 having a hole 8 in the center thereof.
The wire 9 is inserted through hole 8 of the blade until the center of the length 10 rests in the hole 8. The wire is then bent toward the hand-block at `sharp angles 11 and thence outward on each side of the blade to an approximate angle of- 45 degrees to both the blade and hand-block, the remaining portions of the wire 12 passing through the block and being bent over on the reverse side of the hand-block 13 as shown at 14.
It will be understood that applicanfls de- Vice can be used to scrape any surface and that the blade will never work loose or become cletached from the handle for the reason that it is permanently secured thereto by the simple but rigidly secured wire 10.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim aS new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A scraper comprising a hand-block, having a transverse groove therein, a blade inserted in said groove and provided with a hole in the center thereof, a wire through said hole in'said blade having the center of the length thereof resting in said hole, said wire bent next to said blade at sharp angfes toward said hand-block and thence outward at an approximate angle of 45 degrees to said blade and hand-block, and the ends of said wire passing through said hand-block and bent over on the reverse side thereof.
2. A scraper comprising a hand-block having a transverse groove therein, a blade inserted in said groove and provided with a hole approximately in the center thereof, a wire through said hole in said blade having the center of the length thereof resting in. said hole, said wire bent next to said blade at sharp angles toward said handblock and thence outward at an approximate angle of 45 degrees to said blade and handblock, and the ends of said wire secured to said hand-block.
