This bead serves not only 'v to reinforce the 4kcutter 4plate 516, but also' 'guides the paper between the said plate; Spring hinges 18 are*J securedto shaft 14 and n I the bead 17 and to the end frames 1, said hinges exerting their tension to forcethe plate 16 downwardly onto the paper so that when the latter is drawn forwardly and thenpulled in the usual manner across the edge of said Vplate 16, effective cutting of n bridge members 2l are provided to bridge the interrupted portion of the cutting edge and the plate 16, said members being mounted to swing outwardly as theY paper is graspedY and pulled forwardly, but being returned 'to their initial positions, by means of suitable springs 22, said springs turning the members 21 around their pivots to the extent permitted by the stops 23. When these stops are encountered the straight edges 24 of the bridge members 21 are in alinement, so that they form a continuation ofthe cutting edge of the plate 16, thus insuring that the paper shall be torn upon a straight uninterrupted line.
I attach `great importance to the fact that the posts 12 swing rearwardly `when the bearings 4 are opened, this movement serving to dispose the brake bar 10 to such a position as to prevent the same from interfering in any manner with the application of a new roll of paper. It is worthy of note that when the bearings are opened, a new roll of paper may be easily put in place without the necessity of holding springs and the like out of the way as is the case with a numberof paper supports now on the market. Furthermore, it is to be observed that the'brake barwill p'lacethe same tension or braking action upon the roll of paper, whether said roll be large or small.
The cutting mechanism described, and the' Ybead 17 onthe rear edge of the cutter plate 1G,`are also deemed highly important features of the invention. Since probably the best results are obtained from the specific constructions shown and described, such construction constitutes the preferred form of the improved paper support. It is to be understood, however, that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may be made-without sacrificing the principal advantages.
I claim:
A wrapping'paper support comprising a pair of end frames having means for supporting a roll of paper, a transverse shelf secured at its ends to said frames and positioned at the front edges of the latter, said shelf being adapted to receive thereon the paper unwound from said roll and having in its front edge a central notch, a sheetmetal cutter plate overlying said shelf and having its rear edge rolled upwardly and forwardly `to form a bead which serves to guide the paper between the cutter plate and shelf and also as reinforcing means for said plate, spring hinges secured to the upper side of said bead and to said end frames for forcing said cutter plate downwardly onto the paper to place tension on the latter and for permitting upward swinging of said cutter plate entirely away from said shelf when inserting the Japer between the two, the front edge of said cutter plate having a notch positioned above the notch of said shelf, and a pair of spring restored bridge members pivoted to said cutter plate and having straight front edges in alinement and extending across the notch of said plate.
