Description

UNITED STATES ERNEST H. COBLE, 0F JACKSON, MICHIGAN.
FOOTREST.
Application filed April 2,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ERNEST H. COBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Footrests, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a foot rest particularly designed for use in connection with registers, radiators or analogous structures, and an object of theinvention is to provide a foot rest which can be easily attached to a radiator structure, and one which may be folded against the radiator structure when not in use to prevent its protruding into the room.
Another object of this invention is to provide a foot rest attachment which is adjustable as to width, within certain limits to permit its ready attachment to radiators of varying widths and also one which presents a neat pleasing appearance either when in use or in its inoperative position.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure l is a front elevation of the improved foot rest.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and showing the foot rest in an extended operative position.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the foot rest folded.
Fig. 4 is a detailed section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the improved foot rest comprises a pair of side braces 1 and 2 which are formed of suitable sheet metal and have substantially circular lateral offset heads 3 upon their upper ends while their lower ends curve laterally and are provided with arcuate bayonet slots 4 adapted to engage over the parts 5 of the radiator structure suitable for engagement in the arcuate bayonet slots 4. Upper brace arms 7 and 8 are provided each of which comprises adjustable connecting sections 9 and 10. The sections 10 are provided with circular lateral ofi'set heads 11 registering with the heads 3 of the braces 2 while the sections 9 are provided with bayonet slots 12 in their inner ends adapted to engage over portions 13 of the radiator and to permit proper attachment of the brace arms 7 and 8 to the radiator structure 6. Movable or slidable pieces 15 are provided Specification of Letters Patent.

which are attached to the sections 9 by bolts or screws 14 and slots 14*. The piece 15 is rovided with a recess extending inwardly from its outer end, which recess is adapted 5 to register with the bayonet slot 12 while the lower arm formed by said recess forms a closure for the opening or entrance to the bayonet slot 12 and prevents detachable connection between the radiator and brace arms 7 and 8. The movable pieces 15 are held in closed position by the tightening of the screws 14. The lateral extensions 16, in the bayonet slots 12 co-act with the member 13 in supporting the movement. The braces 7 and 8 are connected near their outer ends by a cross rod 17 which has its ends threaded into sockets 18 carried by the braces 7 and 8 and the braces 1 and 2 are connected and braced by a cross rod 19 which threadably engages in sockets 20 carried by the braces. Threadable engagement of the cross heads 17 and 19 with their respective sockets 18 and 20 permits adjustment of the braces 1 and 2 and 7 and 8 laterally, relative to each other to permit adjustment of the width of the foot rest to accommodate it for attachment to radiators of different widths. The heads 3 and 11 are provided with alining openings as indicated at 21 which receive therethrough the foot rest rod 22 upon the ends of which are removably mounted knobs 23. One of the knobs 23 may be rigidly mounted upon the rod 22 if desired but the other must be removably mounted to permit proper connection of the rod with the braces.
The sections 9 and 10 of the arms 7 and S are adjustably connected, by means of bolts 24, slots 25 and a plurality of openings 26 formed in the sections 10, for permitting limited adjustment of the lengths of the braces 7 and 8. In use the foot rest structure is connected to the radiator 6 by means of the members 5 and 13, the former of which are inserted into the arcuate bayonet slots 4 through their openings 4 while the arms 7 and 8 are connected to the pieces 13 as heretofore described. When the foot rest is in a folded position, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing and it is desired to extend it into extended position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the foot rest is moved vertically to move the lateral extension 16 of the bayonet slots 12 into position for receiving the members 13, which permits outward movement of the foot rest into an extended braces7 and 8 for pivotal desire to be limited in any manner position, and When fully extended the bolts 5 engage the ends of the arcuate bayonet slots 4:, forming a secure brace for the foot rest and looking it against pivotal movement by lateral pressure thereon making it necessary to lift upwardly and inwardly on the foot rest to fold it.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not except as set forth in the claims hereunto ap pended. 7
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. In a foot rest attachment for radiators, upper brace arms each comprising a pair of adjustably connected sections, said arms provided with bayonet slots in their attaching ends, downwardly inclining braces one associated with each of said upper arms and provided with arcuate bayonet slots in their lower ends, and a foot rest rod carried by said arms and braces.
2. In a foot rest attachment for radiators, a pair of spaced upper brace arms each comprising adjustably connected sections, said brace arms adapted for connection with a radiator to permit pivotal and longitudinal movement of the arms relative to a radiator, downwardly inclining braces having their upper ends engaging the outer ends of said upper arms and provided with arcuat bayonet slots in their lower ends, and a foot rest rod extending through the engaging ends of saidarms and braces.
35. In a foot rest attachment for radiators, a pair of spaced upper brace arms each comprising adjustably connected sections, said brace arms adapted for connection with a radiator to permit pivotal and longitudinal movement of the arms relative to ca radiator, downwardly inclining braces having their upper ends engaging the outer ends of said upper arms and provided witharcuate bayonet slots in their lower ends, and a foot rest rod extending through the engag ing ends of said arms and braces, sockets carried by said upper arms and said braces, and cross rods adjustably connected to said sockets. r
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature,
