' HAIR-CLIPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Oct. 25, 1921.
Application filed April 26, 1920. SerialNo. 376,740.
To all III/1.0772 it may concern Be it known that I, Fonns'r. l1. GRAY. a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Kenmore, in the county of Summit and State of ()hio,have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair-Clippers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to im irovements in clippers especially designed for barber's use and has for an object the provision of means whereby the length of the hair being cut may be regulated.
i nether object is the provision of means for preventing the clippers from sticking to the neck of a person, due to the moist condition of the skin or the formation of a vacuum beneath the bottom of the clippers.
Another object is the provision of a de vice of this character which may either be manufactured with the clipper or separately made and attached thereto.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with. the accompanying drawings.
in the drawings Figure l is a side elevation of apair of clippers embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan of the base plate.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
Referring in detail to the drawings,
wherein like characters of reference denotecorresponding parts, the clipper which is designated in its entirety by the reference character it) includes a base plate 11. This base plate may be secured to a plate 12 which carries the comb teeth through the medium of fastening devices 13, so as to permit of its attachment to clippers of various makes.
The plate 11 has extending from the bottom thereof in right angled relation, aplurality of spaced blades 14, the forward ends ,of these blades'being pointed and disposed adjacent the forward edge of the base plate 11 and extending substantially throughout the length of the plate. The outer edges of the blades 14 are convex in shape and provide runners upon which the clipper may be rocked to regulate the length of the hair being cut. lhe forward ends of the blades are arranged adjacent the rear ends of the comb teeth and if desired the plate '11 may he provided with extending teeth 15 with their notches registering with the notches between the comb teeth.
Extending from the bottom of the base plate 11 are spaced pairs of teeth 16 which are also provided with convened lower edges and have their forward pointed ends alined with the ends of the teeth 14. These teeth together with the teeth let provide for the separation of the hair and prevent the formation of a vacuum beneath the bottom of the base plate. If desired, the blades 14 and 16 may be connected directly to the base plate 12 in the manufacture of the device. The invention is susceptible of various changes in'its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the claimed is The combination with a hair clipping device, of a base plate, a plurality o'f right angularly disposed spaced blades carried thereby, said blades having COIWGX outer surfaces terminating in a forwardly pointed end which extends from the rear end of the invention What is teeth of the clipping device to the rear edge of the base plate and spaced pairs of rela tively'short curved blades located between the first mentioned blades;
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
