Description
T. V. H l] BBS.

Patente@ lunes. :873.
gialli j Ml. P/mTo-umns/MPH/c ca MX (assonnels mam-s) UNITED STATEs -V PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS V. HOBBS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN 'WORK-ASKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,508, dated June 3, 1873 y application filed November 11, m72.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs V. HoBBs, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Work-baskets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being` had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in Which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved work-basket; Fig. 2, a vertical central section through the bottom of the basket and the top of the standard; and Fig.
- 3 a vertical central section through the rim of the basket and one of the spool-pins.
The object of my invention is to make the basket more convenient for the purposes for which it is intended; and my invention con` sists in making a combined Work-basket and spool-holder.
In the drawing, A represents the standard or support of the basket. B is the basket. b is a pin or pivot on which the basket is capable of being turned freely. I deem it preferable, but not essential, to interpose awasher between the bottom of the basket and the top of the standard, as shown in Fig. 2, for the purpose of decreasing the friction between these parts during the rotary movement of the basket.
C C are spools of sewing-thread or silk arranged on pins attached to t-he basket. Cl is a pin attached to the basket for the purpose of supporting the spools. The spools are capableof being turned freely on their pins, and are removable. c is a button on the point of the pins Cl for the purpose of preventing the spools from leaving their pins. The pins C' C may be arranged on any part of the basket -Which may be conveniently reached, and when i the pins Cl C are vertical, or nearly` so, the buttons c need not be employed for the pur` pose referred to. By this means the basket is rendered capable of a rotary movement, and various kinds and colors of thread and silk are rendered convenient for use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l. A combined Work-basket and spool-holder, when the basket is provided with pins to receive the spools, substantially` as speciied.
2. A combined rotary work-basket and spoolholder, when the basket is provided with pins to receive the spools, substantially as described.
TH. V. HOBBS.
