Description

G. H. RYER.
Clothes-Line Pulleys.
Patented May 20, 1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT H GEEIGE.
GEORGE E. RYER, 0E- NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-LINE PULLEVS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,024, dated May 20, 1873;v application led October 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. RYER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Clothes-Line Pulleys, of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in au arrangement whereby on one end of the line two blocks or pulleys are used, allowing the clothes to pass between them, and thus allowing the Whole rope or line to be used for hanging clothes on, instead of the present method, whereby only one-half of the line can be used for thatpurpose.
The accompanying drawing is as follows:
Figure l is a perspective View of the clothesline on my improved pulleys. Fig. 2 is an elevation, showing` my improved pulleys and the frame to which they are fastened. Fig. 3,.
is a plan of the same.
G is the wall or pole to which my new clothes-pulleys are fastened. His the wall or pole on the other end, to which a usual ropepulley is fastened. K is the rope. L M N are the clothes, fastened to the rope by the pins O O. I is the old-style block or pulley. E E E is the cast-iron or other strong metal frame in which my new pulleys are inserted. F F are two axles'fastened to the frame. A is the large pulley over which the clothes line or rope passes. B is the small pulley, revolving in an opposite direction from the large pulley; 'the lower circle of the two pulleys touch, and are covered by two Indiarubber bands or rings, D D, which permit the clothes to pass through without injury to them.
This arrangement permits both sides of the line to be used in the following manner: I commence to hang the clothes next to the old block P, and continue to hang them to the left until I reach the new pulley A, -When I revolve it, andy all the clothes hung will then pass through the two pulleysv A and B, and I continue hanging from Puntil the whole line is full. The reason for two pulleys isv to prevent the clothes-line from coming oft. The new pulleys may be used on both ends, if desired.
I claim as my invention- The two pulleys A and B, with India-rubber bands or rings at the lower ends, inserted in a frame fastened to one end or wall, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
