Be it known that l, ll/VILLIAM A. MATYK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in tle county of Linn and State of owa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Caps, of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

`rllhis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in caps7 and more particularly to what is known in the art as dust or boudoir caps, the object being to provide a cap formed of paper and so constructed that it can be manufactured very cheaply so that when it becomes soiled, it can be thrown away.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cap with an elastic band for holding the same firmly in position on the head, the band being so constructed and arranged that it will bind the cap without any unnecessary pressure.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

In carrying out my invention I cut an oval shaped piece of paper to form the body l of the cap and as herein shown l employ crape paper for this purpose. I then cut olf one end portion and turn the end back to form a hem 2 and arrange within the ends of the hem reinforcing members 3 which are square shaped pieces of paper bent back upon themselves and secured within the hem by the stitching.

I then cut from a sheet of paper a blank l as shown in Fig. 3 which is oblong in shape having its ends scalloped which is folded on a line indicated by 5 and the ends stitched as shown, the longitudinal edge being secured to the curved'end 7 of the blank l by stitching 8, the band being placed within the body and stitchedy and then turned upwardly as clearly-shown in the drawing.

An elastic strap 9 is thenforced through the hem 2 of the body, the ends passing through the reinforcing members 3 so as to prevent the hem from being torn. The free ends of the elastic strap 9 are then passed through openings formed in a nonelastic strap l0, the ends being reinforced as shown at 1l. Knots l2 are then formed in the end of the elastic strap and the strap is then placed between the band 4 and the body of the cap.

The body of the cap is gathered as shown at 13 and plaited as shown at v14 togive it a crown effect so that it will be of a proper shape to fit over the head of a woman.

By constructing a cap in this manner a highly ornamental dust or boudoir cap is formed ofl crape paper which can be used either as a dust or a boudoir cap.

What l claim is l. As a new article of manufacture, a paper cap comprising an oval shaped body gathered longitudinally and transversely to form av substantially hemispherical crown, one end of said body being provided with a hem, a band secured to the other end of said body and extending upwardly therefrom and a strap arranged under said band having an elastic cord extending through the hem of said body and connected to the free ends of said strap.

As a Inew article of manufacture, a dust cap formed of a body gathered to form a substantially hemispherical crown, a band vsecured to the inside of said crown and eX- tending upwardly around substantially half of the crown, a hem formed around the other half of the crown having reinforcing members at its ends, an elastic cord arranged within said hem and a band having its free end connected to the ends of said cord adapted to be arranged under said band.
