' DETONATING TOY.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 20', W20.

ATTORNEY WITNESSEG I UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFICE.
WILLIAM r. WOERNER, or mciasrnn. PENNSYLVANIA.
DETONA'IING 'ro'Y;
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM- P. Woman, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and 'useful Improvements in Detonating Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to detonating toys and is an improvement upon Patent numbered 1,334,826 granted to me March 24, 1920 and has for an object the provision of a toy in which paper caps may be fired in a safe and sane manner.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy of this character which is simple of construction, cheaply made and which may be readily assembled and secured upon the end of a rod or cane.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to
be hereinafter more fully described, illus'-' ings.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the other castmg.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a substantially cylindrical member which is formed in two sections 11 and 12, both of which are hollow so as to provide a longitudinal bore when the sections are connected, which is open at each end and which is of cylindrical formation. The bore of each of the sections is enlarged as indicated at 13 so as to provide a firing chamber within which an ordinary paper cap may be exploded.
The section 12 carries an anvil 14 which is adapted to extend into the enlarged portion 13 of the other section and to be located at one end of the firing chamber. In addition this anvil aids in holding the sections together, that is, in preventing relative'move- ,ment of the sections when the latter are connected. This connection is efi'ectedby a fastening device which may be in the form of a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June'21, 1921.
" Application filed November 20, 1920. a Serial No. 425,440.- I
cated openings provided in each of the sections, as clearly shown in Fig. 20f the draw- Operating- 'within the firing chamber which is indicated at 16 in F ig. 2, is a firing pin which includes a head 17 and a shank 18. The head engages an annular shoulder 19 formed at one end of the firing chamber 16 so as to limit its movement in one direction, while the shank extends through one end of the bore which is restricted so as to provide a guide 20.
An opening 21 is formed in the section 12 which is adapted for the insertion of the caps, the latter being placed upon the head of the firing pin and the projecing end of the shank 18 struck against some hard object or surface so that the cap will be brought into sharp contact with the anvil 14 and exploded, as will be readily understood. An.
additional opening 22 is provided in the wall of the firing chamber, being located in the section 11. i The section 12 is provided with laterally extending spaced lugs 23, which are adapted to enter sockets or recesses 24 provided in the section 11 upon opposite sides of the re-. stricted bore 20, and upon opposite sides of theshank of the firing pin. This also acts to prevent relative movement of the sections. 7
The opposite end of the bore of the cylindrical member 10 is adapted to receive the end of a cane or rod 24, the latter being se cured in place by a nail or similar fastening device 25. The opposite end of the rod or dle 26.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A detonating toy comprising a substantially cylindrical 'member split longitudinally to provide separate sections, said sections being hollow to provide a central bore when the sections are assembled, a firing chamber located intermediate the ends of the bore, an anvil located at one end of the firing chamber, said anvil forming a part of one section and extending into the other section fall within the scope of the appended cane may be providedwith a knob or han and aiding to hold the sections assembled, means extending transversely through the,
sections for holding them together, aheaded firing pin opening within the firing-chamber and extending through one end of ,the, bore and a rodsecured within the opposite end of the bore.
2. A detonating toy comprising a substantially cylindrical member split longitudinally to: provide separate sections, said sections being hollow to provide a central bore when :the sectionsare assembled, a firin I chamber located intermediate the ends of the bore, an anvil located atone end ofthe firing chamber; saidanvi'l forming a part of one 5 Y section and extending into the other section and aidingrtoholdthe sections assembled, means extending transy'ersely through the sections for holding them together, a headed firing pin operating within the firing cham- ,ber and extending through oneend; of the bore, spaced laterally projecting pins "extending from one of the sections and engag 1ng sockets provided upon opposite sides of the firing pin Within the other section and a rod secured within the opposite end of the bore In testimony whereof I afiix signature. 7'
