Description
F. J. SCHLAGER.
WASHBOABD ANCHOR.
APPLICATION men JULY 22. 1919.
1,381,753, Patented June, 14, 1921 WITNESS: INVENTOR. /X@ #24074? fififSc/zlayer ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK JOSEPH SCHLAGER, 0F BURLINGTON, IOWA.
WASHBOARD-ANCHOR.
Application filed July 22,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK J. SCHLAGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in lVashboard-Anchors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of a novel construction of means, for holding a wash board relatively to a tub in a position for use, thus permitting the use of both hands, and also facilitating the rubbin Specifically stated, the invention makes use of an element which is adapted to be detachably secured to the tub and an ele ment adapted to engage over the edge of the board, with a resilient connection between said element for the purpose specified.
Other objects and advantages will appear when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of the specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan View of the device forming the subject matter of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the manner of using the device.
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view showing the washboard in position on the support.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 indicates a tub in which the board 11 is arranged. In accordance with the present invention, a substantially curved plate 12 is arranged across the upper edge of the board, a plate being formed with a flange or hook 13 to engage the forward edge of the top of the board. The opposite end of the plate is provided with openings 13 in which are secured corresponding extremities of the resilient elements 15, the opposite ends of said elements being adapted to be fixed in some Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 14, 1921. 1919. Serial No. 312,643.
suitable manner with relation to the tub 10, for the purpose of holding the board 11 in movable position within the tub. In this specific instance, use is made of the strip 16 which may be constructed from any suitable material, and terminally provided with hook like elements 17 adapted to engage over the upper edge of the tub l0. Suitable fastening elements such as set screws or the like indicated at 18 are utilized in connection with the hook terminals 18 for holding the stripfixed upon the tub. With the parts in positlon for use, it will be noted that the strip is arranged within the tub, immediately at the rear of the board 11 and against which the board rests. The spring or resilient elements 15 are terminally connected with this strip, and consequently the board is held in its position within the tub against any movement relative to the latter. This permits the use of both hands in connection with the board, and also makes rubbing easier. The plate 12 is provided with a lug 20 which may be grasped in applying the plate to the board and removing the same therefrom.
While I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment of the invention, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself in this connection,
inasmuch as such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:
In combination, a transversely disposed bar, fastening means carried by the opposite ends of the bar for securing the latter to a fixed support, a pair of divergently disposed springs associated with the bar along one of its longitudinal edges, a plate carried by the opposite ends of said springs, and said plate being curved to define a hook at one of its longitudinal edges.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FRANK JOSEPH SCHLAGER.
