To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK P ano, a citizen of Poland, residing at McDonald,

county of Washingtrm,Pand State of Pennsylvania, and I, STEFANIA PELo, a citizen of Poland, residing at McDonald, county of Washington, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in containers for garbage and like waste ma terial, and has as its special object the provision of a container into which debris may be entered in a convenient manner, the container being provided with a tight fitting cover, preventing the entrance of flies and like insects, as well as the emission of odors from the material contained therein.

A further object is to provide a novel form of cover securing means, permitting the entire cover to be removed bodily, whenever it is desired, in a convenient manner.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing a garbage box made in accordance with the invention.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates the front of a rectangular receptacle, the same having side walls 11 and a rear wall 12, provided with a solid bottom and being entirely open at the top. responding portion of the rear wall of the cover 14, the arrangement being such that the hook eyes may be readily engaged or disengaged with the loops 24, holding the cover connected with the body of the contamer. In the modification shown in Figs. 6 and 7, a similar cover is used, engageable with a conta ner as before described, but in place of the lids 16 being hingedly engaged, other lids 30 are slidably engaged between pairs of guides 31, secured to the lower side of the cover plates, transversely thereof, so that upon operating the handles 17 the plates may be moved rearwardly disclosing a clear opening 15 for the entrance of garbage.

Attached to the lower side of the lids 30 are bars 33 having upturned and reentrantly turned portions 34, guided in grooves 35, their ends being engaged in recesses 36, formed in rollers 37, mounted in brackets 38.' V

In operating the lids fixed in the covers, the handles 17 are pressed rearwardly, carrying the lids with them and disclosing the entire opening for the reception of such garbage as it is desired to enter, the lids being returned to normal position by the coiled springs, while in the first described arrangement the lids are pressed downwardly against the flat springs 19 so as to immediately return them in place, maintaining the lids. in a closed position in either form scribed.
