arrangement hereinafter umrnn stares PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK W. WALLACE, OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, ASSIGNOR ONE-HALF TO ALBERT E. DOYLE, OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE.
DENTAL IMPRESSION-TRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 20, 1921. Serial No. 438,734.
I '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK W. WALLACE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Hamllton and State of Tennessee, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Dental Impression-Trays; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which 1t appertains to make and use the same. 7
My invention relates to lmprovements 1n dental impression trays and more part1cu larly to a device of this character intended for the purpose of taking impressions'for the more modern practice of removable bridgwork. ThlS requires a perfect 1mpression with a minimum of fracture of the impression material, and my invention aims to fulfil this requirement by providing a dental impression tray having an upstanding fin which partially splits'the impression material and thereby insures accurate cleaving. I
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel construction and described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplementd bv the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a top plan view showing one form of a dental impression tray constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively longitudinal and transverse sectional views as indicated by the lines 22 and 33 ofFig. 1.
Figs. 4:, 5 and 6 are duplicates of Figs. 1, 2 and 3 with the exception that they show a slightly different form of construction.
In the drawings above briefly described, 7
7 length of said bottom, substantially along its center, is an upstanding relatively narrow flange or fin 4 which is provided on its upper edge with an integral upstanding lug 5 as seen in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, or with a plurality of such lugs as indicated at 6 in the other figures, the lug or lugs belng of slightly less height than the side walls 7 of the vcurved channel shaped tray,
tray 1 so as to cut almost entirely through the impression material when it is placed in the tray, thereby insuring proper cleavage of the impression material after taking Patented May 17, 1921.
the impression. The form of construction shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 .is intended for tak ng impressions of a number of teeth while the other form of the invention is designed for taking an impression of a single tooth. The action of the device is the same in both cases and itwill insure the unusually accurate impressions. which are necessary in connection with removable bridgework.
From the foregoing, taken in connection wlth the accompanying drawing, it will be seen thatalthough my invention is of eX- tremely slmple and inexpensive nature, it will be highly eflicient and in every way desirable, and since probably the best results may be obtalned from the details disclosed, such detalls may be followed if desired. I wlsh it understood however that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may well be made. 'Furthermore, any desirable or suitable mate-' rials may be used in the manufacture of the device,
and as beforestated the fin or the like may .be either permanently or temporarily secured in the tray.
7 I claim:
1. dental impressiontray having an upstanding flange provided on its upper edge w tl'i a vertical lug in the same plane with said flange and of slightly less height than the'side walls of the tray '2. A dental impression cup comprising a a relatively narrow flange rising from the central portion of said tray and extending substantially throughout the length thereof, and a vertical lug rising" from the upper edge of said flange and located in the same plane with said flange, said lug being of slightly FRANK W. WALLACE.
