SAMUEL HAWsoN, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, AND THOMAS SWEENEY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN INKSTANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 137,548, dated April 8, 1873; application filed April 9, 1872.
10 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SAMUEL HAwSoN, of Jersey City, New Jersey, and THOMAS SWEENEY, of Brooklyn, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lnkstands; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being hadto the accompanying drawing and to the letters of indication marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in constructing an inkstand, of glass or other suitable material, with two compartments for different colors or kinds of ink, and with a spongereceptacle, all as more fully hereinafter set forth. V
Figure 1 represents a perspective view. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section, and Fig. 3 represents a cross-section taken through the partition and sponge-receptacle.
A represents the body of the inkstand, which is molded of glass or other suitable ma terial. Through the center of this body is a partition, 0, and on each side of said partition is an ink-receptacle, E E. In the center of the body A, at its top, is a semicircular depression, B, for containing the sponge. D D represent two cups on the front of the body A, and connect by means of the small chambers to a with each of the ink'spaces E E. These cups are to be provided with suitable caps, and are the openings into which the pens are dipped when the spaces E contain ink.
The entire inkstand is molded or cast in one piece, and may be of any suitable shape or configuration.
Different colors or kinds of ink may be in each inkspace, and a sponge placed in the receptacle B, so that a compact and handy article is thus rendered cheap and available.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, the within-described inkstand, consisting of the body A, sponge-receptacle B, partition 0, ink-spaces E E, and cups D D with channels a a, all formed of one piece of material, substantially as and for the purposesset fort-h.
SAMUEL HAWSON. THOMAS SWEENEY.
