UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,

Specification of Letters Patent, Patented Apr. 19,1921- Application filed December 26, 1919. Serial No. 347,438.
adjunct or, adjuncts, such as a roll or a plu-f rality of rolls of film, and, if desired, another adjunct, such as a ray filter or screen, and to securely confine the same against loose movement in thecase, and against liability of loss. 7
The invention is embodied in the improvements which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a side view of a camera case embodying the invention, portions being shown in section. i
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2.2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an edge view of a portion of the case.
.Fig. 4 is an enlargement of portions of Fig. 1.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the figures.
' The improved case includes an elongated pouch, preferably composed of members of leather, or other flexible material united, as by stitching, to form a pouch having rela tively wide side walls 12, and narrower edge walls 13. The side walls 12 are preferably connected by an'integral neck 12, forming the bottom of the pouch and one of the side walls is or may be provided with a flexible extension 12", forming the outer end of the pouch and detachably secured to the other side wall by means such as a strap 14 and a buckle 15, so that the pouch may be opened and closed at its outer end as usual.
The structure thus far described is old and is not claimed by me.
In carrying out my invention I insert in the pouch a rigid holder 16, which is formed to bear on the neck 12 and on portions of the side and edge walls, one end of said holder forming the bottom of the .camerareceiving space 17. Said holder may be a block of wood, or any other suitable materialand, as here shown, is provided with two sockets '18, opening on one end of the holder, and each adapted to receive a roll of film, the inner ends of the sockets being closed. I also show in Fig. 1, another socket 19, opening on the opposite end of the holder and adapted to hold a ray filter or screen. s The ends of the block on which the said sockets open, face the edge walls 13 of the pouch, so that the socketsare closed and their contents confined when the closures hereinafter described are in their operative position. I
The edge walls 13 are provided with socket closures, preferably formed as next described. Each edge wall is composed of an outer layer 13 and an inner layer 13",
said layers being thus designated only in Fig. 4;; A U-shaped slit 20 (Fig. 3) is cut through both layers, and converts a portion of the edge wallinto a flap 21 constituting a socket closure. Said slit defines two longitudinal edges and the lower end of the flap or closure, and also defines two longitudinal edgesand the lower end of an opening in the edge wall, permitting access to the sockets when the closure is displaced. The inner layer 13 is provided with a trans- Verse slit 22, defining the upper end of the closure and the upper end of the said opening. The outer layer-l3 is extended across the transverse slit 22, to form a hinge or flexible connection at 13, between the closure and the body portion of the edge wall, permitting the closure to be displaced.
The holder 16 and the swinging end of the closure 21 are provided with complemental members 25 and 26 of a separable snap fastener, one of said members being rigidly supported by the holder. shown, the member 25 is a stud member, and the member 26 is a socket member, adapted to resiliently engage the stud member. The
fastener thus constituted is of well know construction. p
I prefer to locate the member 26 in an orifice formed for lts reception in the closure As here I 21, and to cover said orifice and member at the outer side of the closure by a tab 27, attached by stitches 27 to the lower end of the closure and adapted to be grasped and rying strap 28, whereby the case may be suspended from a shoulder of the user. Said strap extends along the outer sides of the closures and prevents accidental dis placement of the same when the case is being carried by the strap, provision being thus made for preventing loss of the contents of the holder, in case the fasteners become accidentally disengaged. A portion of the strap preferably passes between the neck portion 12 and the lower end of the holder, other portions being confined by members 29 against the edge walls 13.
It is obvious that the holder may be provided with one or more adjunct-receiving sockets, and that when the holder has only one socket, or a plurality of sockets opening on one end, only one of the edge walls 13 will require a closure for said socket or sockets. Each socket is adapted to securely confine an adjunct inserted therein, and prevent loose movement of the same, so that the adjunct can not be injured, and can not injure the case, by sliding loosely about therein.
1 claim:
1. A camera case comprising a pouch of flexible sheet material having a lower end wall, elongated side walls connected by said end wall, and relatively narrow elongated edge walls secured to said lower end wall and side walls, and a rigid adjunct holder, rigidly backing the lower end wall, the
being provided with an adjunct-receiving socket, the mouth of which is arranged to be covered by said closure, means being provided for detachably securing the closure to the holder.
2. A camera case comprising an elongated pouch of flexible sheet material having a closed lower end, and adapted to be opened at its upper end, said pouch having a rela tively narrow edge wall provided with an opening and with a displaceable closure therefor, the said edge wall being composed of an outer and an inner layer, and provided with a J-shaped slit formed in both layers, and defining two sides and the outer end of said opening and closure, the inner layer having a transverse slit defining the inner endof the opening and closure, and the outer layer being extended across the said transverse slit to form a hinge connecting the closure with said edge wall.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
