JOSEHHI AUGUST SKOG'LUND, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 5, 19211.
Application filed January 15, 1920. Serial No. 351,716.
folded or flexed with the bristles pointingin *ardly and the ends of the flexed portions secured by a strap which performs the doubl function of a handle when the back is unfolded for using the brush and of a fastener for releasably securing the ends of the brush in folded condition.
in the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspertive view of my invention looking at bristle side; Fig. 2 is another perspective view looking at the back of the brush; Fig. 3 is another perspective view when the brush is folded, and Fig. l is a cross section of a detail showing a few of the bristles and the manner of securing them to the back.
in the drawing, A indicates the back of my improved brush made out of plies B or stitched at C together. Secured to the inner face of this back through the inner ply (see A 15;. larly shaped thin flexible wires the outer ends of which incline in tne same general fold or flex inwardly as shown in Fig. 3 over the bristles in which position a flexible several thicknesses of pliable material,
L are bristles D composed of angudirection. The flexible back is adapted to strap E made of leather or other suitable material is adapted to encircle and hold the back. The ends of this strap have a separable spring fastener F by which the strap is secured to hold the back folded. The body of the strap is secured near its ends by the stitching C to the back leaving the intermediate portion loose or free so that the hand of the user can be inserted to hold and use the brush when the fastener F has been released.
The device forms a convenient brush for use by travelers and the flexibility of the back increases its efficiency in use both as a hair or other brush and when it is desired to fold and pack the brush away. The strap also as applied to the brush performs the double function of a handle and a fastening means for securing the brush in folded position.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Fatent is: V
A brush, comprising, in combination, a flexible back having bristles on its under side, a strap forming a handle portion above the back and having an attaching tab freely extended from one end of said back, the handle portion of said strap being attached at its extremities near the ends of the back, a fastening member on the extremity of said handle portion opposite the tab and a companion fastening member 011 the free end of said tab, said strap serving both as a handle and as an encircling medium to secure the back in folded relation.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
