UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEPHEN 0. PRICE, O1 LOUISIANA, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR '10 RONALD L. PA'IERSON, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
DISPENSING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN C. PRICE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Louisiana, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Devices, of which the following is a specification containing full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to accompan ing drawings, forming a part thereof.
y invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dispensing devices for fluid containers and has for its primary object the construction of a dispensing device which, may be used for dlspensing liquids from receptacles provided with a variety of different sizes and constructions of openings, the device being specially designed for dispensing from receptacles having an external or internal screw threaded opening.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my 1mproved dispensing device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Referring to the drawings, 4 indicates a cap which is provided with internal screw threads 5. Secured to the cap 4 is a tapered plug 6 formed of wood or metal and having secured thereto a covering of resilient material 7, and formed through the tapered plug 6 are openings 8 and 9. The tapered plug 6 is secured to cap 4 by means of the screw 10;-secured to cap 4 is an internal screw threaded projection 11 which communicates with the bore 9. Seated in this projection 11 is a packing nut 12, which packing nut is seated on a body of packing material 13. Located in the nut 12 and the bore or opening 9 is a stem 14 provided with gooseneck 15 on the end of which is mounted a spigot 16. The stem 14 is adjustable for different depths of vessels and by means of the nut 12 and packing material 13 an airtight joint or connection may be formed around the stem 14. Mounted in the opening or bore 8 is a tube 17 and located in the tube 17 is a valve 18 which is held closed by means of a spring 19 and mounted on the stem l? is an ordinary bicycle pump 20.
In the operation of my device I may use it on a receptacle provided with an externally threaded opening by screwing the lid 4 thereon, or I may use it on an internally screw threaded opening by inserting the screw threaded end 21 therein, or if I desire to dispense .from large bottles or jugs I may do so by inserting the tapered plug 6 therein. In either instance when my device has been applied to the receptacle all that is necessary to discharge the contents is to operate the pump 20 in the usual manner and thus create the desired pressure within the receptacle and by the spigot 16 the contents may be discharged.
It Wlll be observed that my dispensing apparatus may be used on differently constructed outlets of vessels and having different sizes and is flexible in its wide variety of uses.
As illustrated the lid or top 4 has secured thereto a hexagonal plate 22 which affords a hand grip when securing the device to a screw threaded neck. The device is also provided with a washer 23 formed of resilient material which is placed within the screw threaded portion 5 and on which the solid member 6 rests.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A dispensing device comprising a tapered plug provided with openings and on its lower end with screw threads, a screw threaded cap secured to its upper end, an adjustable discharge pipe mounted in the plug and cap, a packing secured to said cap and surrounding the discharge pipe, and a spring seated valve, and a pump secured to said device.
2. A dispensing device for liquids comprising a tapered plug provided with a covering of resilient material, screw threads formed on the lower end of said plug, an air inlet opening formed through the plug, a spring pressed valve seated in said opening, an air pump for discharging air through said opening, a screw threaded cap mounted on the upper end of said plug, a hexagonal plate mounted above said cap, an adjustable discharge 'pipe passing through said plug and cap, a packing and packing nut carried by said plate and surrounding the discharge pipe, and a spigot secured to the discharge pi e.
In testimony whereof, I have slgned my name to this specification.
