Description
H. V. A. LORING. NAIL BUFFER. APPLICATION FILED Aus.e. I9I8.
1,370,753. I- Patented. Mar. 8, 1921.
HELENE V. A. LORING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NAIL-BUFFER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dial'. 8, 1921.
Application led August 6, 1918. Serial No. 248,569.
To all 107mm t may concern/z.:
Be it known that I, HELENE V. A. LORING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nail- Buffers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in manicuring implements, and more particularly to an improvement in nail buffers. The object of my invention is the produc-` tion of a device of this character, which will be of durable and economical construction, one which will be of small dimensions and of a foldable nature, permitting of the same being carried in a limited space as in a small hand bag, pocket book, or the like. A fur ther object is the production of a nail buffer as mentioned. which will be of a reversible nature and which will be highly efficient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention Vwill be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1, is a perspective view of a nail buffer embodying the invention, showing the method of use thereof,
Fig. 2, a plan view of the buffer,
Fig. 3, a transverse section thereof, and Fig. il, a longitudinal section of the device.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises an elongated comparatively flat body formed of two oblong sheets 5 of soft pliable material. such for instance as chamois skin. The sheets 5 are secured together at theirends and edges by stitching 6. Interposed between the sheets 5 is a filler 7 of a suitable soft, resilient cushioning material, the arrangement being such that the central portion of the buffer will be in the nature of a comparatively fiat foldable or resilient pad having soft pliable opposite sides which constitute buliing surfaces.
Formed in the ends of sheets 5 are openings 8 adapted to receive the fingers of the user, as clearly seen in Fig. 1, the arrangement being such that said openings are engageable from either side of the device so as to permit of the latter being reversed, that is, used at both sides.
In using the buffer the fingers are inserted into the openings 8 in the manner indicated in Fig. l, so that the central portion of the buffer rests against the palm of the hand for support or backing. The nails of the other hand are then brought into contact with the exposed side of the pad, and rubbed or reciprocated thereon to obtain the desired polish or finish, as will be readily understood. The device is adaptable for use upon either hand, and both sides of the device being alike, the same constitute bufling surfaces, thereby materially extending the life of the buffer over one in which but one side thereof is capable of use. The device is soft and pliable, permitting'of bending or folding thereof so as to permit of the same being conveniently carried in a limited space.
Vhile I have illustrated and described they preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of varlation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. IY therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of suchv variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A nail buffer comprising an elongated comparatively flat body lformedl of two similar soft pliable sheets sewed together at their edges, rendering said body reversible; a resilient filler interposed between said sheets; and circular openings formed in said sheets adjacent each end, one opening being adapted to snugly receive a finger and the other to snugly receive the thumb of the hand, said sheets being sewed together around the edges of said openings, substantially as described.
2. A nail buffer comprising an elongated comparatively flat imperforate body having soft pliable opposite sides rendering said bodyreversible, said body having openings at opposite ends for the snug engagement of a finger and the thumb of a hand; and a resilient filler interposed between said sides, substantially as described.
3. A nail buffer comprising a exible elongated comparatively flat imperforateV body having soft pliable opposite sides rendering said body reversible; and a re'sli# ent llerinterposed between said sides, sub stantially as described.
4. A nail buffer comprising :i iexible elongated comparatively fiat imperorate body having soft pliable opposite sides rendering Said body reversible; :L resilient i filler interposed between said sides; and
10 meansV whereby said buffer may be lixed upon two .fingers of a hand, substantially as HELENE V. A, EoEiNG.
