Description

W. FOGGIE.
MANICURING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED MAR-24,1920.
1,345,91 8. Pat nt d July 6, 1920.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM FOGGIE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
MANICURING DEVICE.
Application filed March 24, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lVILLIAM Foecrn, citizen of the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manicuring Devices, of which the following'is a specification.
This invention relates to manicuring devices.
The object of my invention is to provide such article of manufacture which may be not only produced at little expense, but which is to fill the need for a handy device for cleaning, filing and polishing finger nails.
There are similar articles in existence devised for like purposes. They are however more costly as to manufacture, less handy and may not be as easily operated as my device and be carried without injury to pockets or handbags.
Another object ofmy invention is to provide a device of this kind whereby the only injurious metallic part thereof, the nail file, is prevented from coming into undue contact with any other object, particularly with the lining of pockets or that of bags in which it is carried.
Still another object is to provide means whereby the parts subjected to wear may be easily exchanged by the user without requiring skilled hands to make such changes.
The foregoing and further objects will be more fully evident from the following description and the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device.
Fig. 2 is a top view of same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line an in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4: is a similar sectional View to that in Fig. 3 showing a modified form.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of another modified form of my device.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken at the center plane of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on 7-7 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the body 10 of my device, preferably made of one piece, either solid or hollow, may be produced from line Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 6, 1920.
Serial No. 368,378.
celluloid, hard rubber, wood or any other suitable material which may be easily formed in the shape or shapes indicated in Figs. 1 and 5. The general appearance of my device is that of a wedge having a substantially flat upper surface 11 and a halfcone formed lower portion 12 which terminates at its broadened end in a semisphere 13.
The upper body face terminates at its broadest end in a semi-circular step 1% forming an upright wall of a depression 15 provided above the semi-spherical body portion. This depression serves as finger rest and is preferably padded with a thin layer of leather 16.
To the senii-circuar wall 14 a half-round file-strip 17 is attached, preferably by way of slipping it into a recess 18, as indicated in Fig. 2, or in a similar recess 18, as may be seen in Fig. at. The file may be however, secured to the body in any other preferred way suitable for manufacture, for instance by rivets 18 (Fig. 3) glue, or other means.
On the top of the flat body face 11 a polishing pad 19 is attached either by glue, or, in the way indicated in Figs. 4 and 6, by means of resilient rings or strips 20, leaving free, however, the pointed end 21, which serves for cleaning finger nails. 1
Both the file 17 and nail polishing pad 19 are exchangeable and may be removed and renewed at will.
The operation of my device is obvious. When a finger nail is to be trimmed, the finger tip is placed into the depression 15 and rests upon protecting pad 16.
The semiconical portion 12 serves as handle and is held in the other hand. Then the handle is swung in an arc back and forth and the nail is pressed toward the file 17 and is adjusted during the operation to receive the desired shape.
When the nails are to be cleaned, the pointed end 21 is passed between the nail and flesh.
The pad 19 is used for polishing the nails. For this operation the body is turned with its rounded side upward, which latter again serves as handle, and the nails are polished in the well known way. 4
Having thus described my invention, I reserve for myself the right to change the shape of the body and to make other changes and improvements within the broad scope of my idea, for which I claim:
1. An article of manufacture comprising a generally wedge-shaped body having a substantially straight upper face and a curved lower face, one of its ends terminating in a sharp point, the other, broadened end being semi-spherically curved, a depression provided at its broadened upper portion adapted to receive the tip of a finger, a semi-circular step forming an upright wall of said depression, a nail file attached to said wall, a leather pad covering the depressed finger receiving portion, and
a nail polishing pad provided at the upper face of the body in such a way as to leave free its pointed end. a Y
2.- An article of manufacture, comprising in combination, a generally wedge-shaped body having a substantially straight, upper face and a cone-shaped lower face, the latter broadenlng at one end to a semi-sphere,
the other end terminating in a sharp point, a recess provided at the broadened end for receiving the tip of a finger, a semi-circular wall forming the end ofthat recess, a pad covering the recess, a file attached tosaid wall and a polishingpad provided at upper face of the body.
3. A manicuring device, comprising in combination, a substantially wedge-shaped body, one end of which is pointed, the other end being broad and having a depressed finger rest, a semi-circular file set into and o. A manicuring. device, comprising in combination, a homogeneous body pointed at one end and broad at the other, a finger rest at the latter end, an exchangeable file facingsaid-finger rest, and an exchangeable polishing pad attached to the body.
6. A manicuring device comprising .a homogeneous, wedge-shaped body provided with one sharp and one rounded and broadened end, thelatter forming a finger rest having an exchangeable nail file facing its open end, said filebeing attached in such a .way as to preclude any contact with object not intended to be engaged'thereby, and anexchangeable V nail pohshmg .pad provided upon the body. 7
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 23rd day of March, A, D. 1920..
