HANNAH JACOBS AND HARRY JACOBS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAIR-WAVING COMB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1, 1921.
Application filed December 3, 1920. Serial No. 428,003.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that we, HANNAH JACOBS and HARRY JAooBs, citizens of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-WVaving Combs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hair waving devices wherein a series of combs are connected in such manner that all of the combs are in alinement when extended but wherein the alternate combs will move in opposite directions when the said combs are brought together for the purpose of waving the hair.
The object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described, which is of simple construction, and wherein suitable means are provided to direct the motion of the combs. v
This object is attained by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing and described in the following speclfication.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a view showing the extended position of the device; ig. 2 is a view showing the contracted or closed device, and Fig. 3 is a perspective detailed view of a pivot or connecting plate hereinafter described.
Referring to the parts, 1 and 2, represent two series of combs pivotally connected by means of links 3, plates 4 and pivots 5. The plates 4 are securely attached to the combs by any suitable means as'at 6, and are formed with upwardly extending lugs 7 which are adapted to 'enga e along one edge of the links 3 to direct t e movement of the said links when the device is contracted as shown in Fig. 2.
In practice, the device is placed upon the head of the user in such manner that the hair is engaged by the teeth of the combs, whereupon the device is brought together and the hair waved to conform to the action of the combs.
The links 3 maybe provided with hinges 8 as shown in Fig. 1 to more readily admit of the curvatureof the device to conform to the shape of the head.
Obviously any number of combs may be attached in the manner shown in the drawings and various modifications, within the scope of the invention, may be embodied.
lVhat is claimed is 1. In a hair waving apparatus, a plurality of combs pivotally connected, attachment plates secured to the combs, linkspivotally connected to the said attachment plates and lugs formed upon attachment plates to engage one side of the attached links.
2. In a hair waving device, a plurality of combs pivotally connected, attachment plates secured thereto, links pivotally connected to the attachment plates and adapted to permit the extension of the combs to the limit of the links, and their contraction and alternate lateral movement to the limit of the links, and lugs formed upon the attachment plates to limit the turning movement of the connecting links.
Signed at New York in the county of New Yorkand State of New York this 2nd day of December A. D. 1920.
