UNETE WILLIAM NELSON, OF BARROW-IN-FURNESS, ENGLAlVI).
CLEANING AND. SCRUBBING DEVICE.
Application filed. October 4,
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM NELSON, insurance agent, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 11 Hartington street, Barrow-in-Furness, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cleaning and Scrubbing Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cleaning and scrubbing devices comprising brushes and rubber erasers or Squeegees in combination and has for its object to provide apparatus of this kind in which wear of the erasers or Squeegees may be compensated for and in which said eraser or squeegee portion of the device may be adjusted to suit requirements, as when from usage the portions become worn and the rubber eraser or squee gee project to the level of the bristles of the brush portion, the relative positions of the brush and the eraser or Squeegees being capable of regulation at will.
The device in accordance withthis invention will be found particularly applicable for use in cleaning papered walls, as well as of service in scrubbing and cleaning floors and other plane surfaces.
My invention consists essentially in forming the brush portion of the cleaning and scrubbing device in a plurality of sections (a convenient number being three) arranged in parallel relation one to the other and connected and held together by a screw bolt and a set nut at or near each end, the center section being formed with an upwardly standing head portion suitably shaped and bored to receive the end of an operating handle.
Between the center section and the outer sections, strips of india rubber compound, or other suitable material, are inserted serving as the eraser or squeegee portion of the device. These rubber or like strips are lo cated between the tie bolts and by adjustment of the set nuts on the latter the erasers or Squeegees are securely held in position at any required level.
And in order that my invention may be Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb, 22, 1921,
1919. Serial No. 828,367.
7 fully understood I will now describe same with reference to the accompanying drawings and figures and letters of reference marked thereon, that is to say F lgure 1 is an end elevation and Fig. 2 a plan of the combined brush and eraser or squeegee constructed in accordance with my said invention.
In the drawings aforesaid the device is represented as comprising three brush sections and two rubber or like strips serving as erasers and Squeegees, a, b, and 0, are the brush sections, and d and e the rubber or like strips.
The center brush section b is formed with a raised portion fconveniently formed with sloping sides and ends and which in the center of its length may be bored at each side or be fitted with sockets adapted to receive the end of an operating handle such as g. A hand operating strap k may be fixed on the upper surface of the head. i i are screw bolts passing through the brush sections a, b, 0 and serving to hold same in position and as the set nuts j are screwed up so are the eraser or squeegee portions d and e, interposed between the brush sections, securely gripped. The depth to which these strips d and e project beyond the heads of the brush sections may be regulated to suit requirements, and if worn or in need of alteration, by loosening the binding nuts j, said strips 03 and e (or either of them) may be raised or lowered to the extent desired and by again screwing up the nuts 7' are tightly held in the adjusted position.
What I claim is In a cleaning and scrubbing device, the combination of a plurality of spaced'parallel brush sections, erasers arranged between said brush sections and adjustable in depth withrespect to said brush sections, and bolts passing through said brush sections and clamping the erasers and brush sections together.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
, WILLIAM NELSON.
