LIVE BUCKLE. APPLlCATl0H FlLED sew 29. 1920.

PATENT QFFIQE.
GABRIEL ABRAHAM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LIVE BUCKLE.
Application filed September 29, 1820.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GABRIEL i luminate, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of' Manhattan, county, city, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Live Buckles, set forth in the following specification.
This invention relates to buckles and more particularly to those of the type adapted adjustably to fasten belts, although it is by no means limited to such use. I
The object of the invention is to provide an improved buckle to which a high degree of finish may be imparted while at the same time it shall possess all the functioning mechanism of a live or spring buckle, to do away with the need of elastic in the strap or other corresponding member with which it is to cooperate. To this end I have combined number of structural elements or features which make possible the achievement of the desired object. It is in this novel combination of elements that my invention resides.
The above will be pointed out more in detail in the accompanying claim which is directed merely for purposes of illustration to th illustrative embodiment of my invention described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof.
In the drawings,
Figure l is a perspective view of my buckle in use as a belt buckle;
Fig. 2 is a cross section drawn to an enlarged stale;
Fig. 3 is a vertical elevation partly in section and with parts broken away showina' the interior construction;
Fig. is a cross section with parts shown in elevation taken along the line lV-TV of Fig. 3; and
Fig. is a perspective view showing a modifi' ation of the belt fastening means.
A box-like structure A is formed from an elongated preferably curved, base 1 of suitable sheet metal which is bent along its opposite edges to form parallel lips 2 and 3 having flanqes 4 and 5 overlying the base 1. The far end 6 of base 1 is turned back substantially at right angles and preferably formed with an inturn 7 to finish the far end of the base serve as a reinforce at such end. If desired, a complete box-like structure may be formed by the use of a cover Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1921.
Serial No. 413,534.
in the form of a metal block to mount the.
swivel pins or screws 11 and 12 of the cam face-plate 13 of the buckle.
Adapted to play within the space of the structure A is a slide 14 at its inner end provided with a suitably secured eye-piece 15 adapted to mount the end 16 of a strap or belt 17. The far end of the slide 14 preferably terminates in a curl 20 serving as a buttress for the end 21 of compression spring 22 and also serves as a guiding lock for the slide 14. The opposite end 23 of compression spring 22- abuts against the buttress 25 suitably secured preferably removably to the inner end 26 of base 1 as by screws 27. This sliding spring may be assembled and fixed in assemblement by the final attachment of the buttress 25.
At the outer or far end of base 1 is formed a suitable strap engaging means 30 preferably in the form of a series of spurs or a ridge 31 to bite against the adjustable end of the strap. A cam face-plate 34 is provided preferably of sheet metal stock which may have an ornamental surface 35 and which is provided with parallel flanges 37 and 38 through which the pivot s rews 11 and 12 pass at the far end to swivel the plate to the structure A. A strap end 32 passes beneath the cam plate 34 and over the spurs 30 so that when the plate 34 is pressed home as indicated in Fig. 1, the portion 40 of the plate 34 jams the strap 32 against the spurs 30 and insures a secure hold upon the strap although any degree of adjustment is permitted. The lip 41 of the cover plate 84 resting against the end 32 of the strap holds the cover plate closed when the strap is under tension and the entire buckle structure is so adapted that the combination of the compression spring is free and at the same time completely concealed.
The face-plate and sharp end 34 completely cover and conceal the buekle proper including the movable slide 14.
W'hat I claim and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent is:
In a buckle in combination, a base having parallel lips provided with flanges along its longitudinal edges and having one'end extending out at right angles to form a pivot reinforcement and end closure; a slide having a spring abutment at its far end and a strap eye at its near end and adapted to work Within said base under said flanges; a spring abutment formed at the near end of said base; a zig-zag compression spring 00- oupying said space between said base and said slide and reacting against said abutments; raised strap engaglng means at the reinforced far end of said base and a cam like face-plate having pivot pins pivoted to 10 In Witness whereof, I have signed my 15 name to this specification this 26 day of August, 1920.
