MULTIPLE ADJUSTABLE WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1921.
Application filed January 13, 1920. Serial No. 351,101.
Be it known that I Onrnmo YGUAIN, citizen of the Argentine Republic, and resident oi Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic, have invented certain new and useful Improve merits in Multiple Adjustable Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention refers to a multiple adjustable wrench possessing in a convenient form and size, everything necessary for the screwing and unscrewing of bolts, nuts and pipes.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal view of an assembled wrench embodying the invention;
Figs. 2, 3 and 4. are views of different parts;
Fig. 5 is a side view, partially in section and taken in an opposite direction to that in which the wrench is shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a cross section on the line 66 of Fig. 5.
(a) is the vertical jaw shown as Fig. 2 which on being extended longitudinally in its bearing on the wrench body allows it to be utilized for dilferent sizes of bolts and nuts;
(b) is the upper body of the wrench fixed on the handle and through which passes the part shown in Fig. 2;
(c) is the knurled steel adjustment nut that aflords the necessary movement in either direction of the part shown in Fig. 2;
(d) is the lower jaw of the part shown in Fig. 2 to be used for working. on pipes;
(e) is the fixed jaw of the wrench;
(h) are the grooves of the part 0 shown in Fig. 3 that engage with teeth It shown in Fig. 2;
(g) is the flange or dog that rotates around the pin J and which jointly with the jaw d shown in Fig. 2 allows the wrench to be used on pipes;
(71) are the teeth of the part shown in Fig. 2 that engage with the grooves of the nut c (Fig. 3);
is the pin that acts as an axle for the knurled steel adjustment nut c (Fig. 3)
(7c) is a spring that holds in position the flange 9 shown in Fig. 4;
(m) is an opening through which passes the pin that acts as an axle :tor the flange g, shown in Fig. 4;
(n) is the handle of the wrench on which various sizes of hexagonal or square openings can be made to allow it to be used on nuts.
Fig. 2 represents the part that enters the body (6) of the wrench, its lower part having a grooved section (k) to facilitate the necessary working in the longitudinal direction produced by the knurled steel adjustment nut c.
This part has two jaws, one shown as (a) which coiiperates with the jaw (e) fixed to the body of the wrench and that can be used for bolts and nuts; the other (d) which together with the grooved flange (g) is adaptable :tor use on pipes.
Fig. 3 represents the knurled nut c that rotates on the pin the grooves of which mesh with the teeth (h) of the part shown in Fig. 2 and on rotating gives the said part shown in Fig. 2 a longitudinal movement.
Fig. 4 represents a flange that is placed in the body of the wrench as indicated by the letter 9; this rotates on the pin J that passes through the opening m and is held in position by means of the spring 72.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A. wrench comprising a handle having a fixed jaw at one end, forming an extension thereof and provided with a transverse guide opening; a slide mounted for move ment in said guide opening and provided with a jaw on its outer side, with teeth on its inner side, and also provided at the outer end with a rearwardly extending hooked jaw; a worm mounted in the handle and engaging the teeth of said slide, and a dog pivotally mounted on the handle on the side opposite the said hooked jaw and eoacting with said jaw to grip a pipe.
Signed at Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic, in the consulate-general of the United States of America, this 25th day of November, A. D. 1919.
ORFELIO YGUAIN.
