To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JOHN J. LOCHMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Razor-Blade Holders, of which the followin is a full, clear, and exact specification. This invention relates more particularly to a class of devices adapted to be used in con'unction with safety razor blades.

lVly invention has for its object primarily to provide a holder adapted to be employed for removably carrying a safety razor blade whereby the blade may be readily and effectually honed or sharpened, and which is of a form to allow blades of various makes to be accommodated therein as Well as being of a form to permit the handles of different types of safety razors to be used in conjunction with the holder. The invention re-. sides mainly in providing a. surface element orplate having a recess or aperture as well as having in spaced proximlty to the recess a number of spaced lugs or knobs so that forms of safety razor blades made with orifices and those made with marginal beads 'or flanges may be interchangeably mounted on the element. On the surface element is a bar or jaw havin one of its ends pivoted to the. element so t at it may be swun back and forth crosswise with relation to t e recess and the lugs of the surface element for engaging and disengaging'the razor blade when applied on the element so that the blade will be removably clamped on the ele-' ment.-

Other objects of the invention are to pro vide a catc for rele'asably locking the second end of the bar and the surface element together; to provide on the surface element a head to allow the handles of different types of razor blades to be removably attached to the element; and to provide a razor blade holder of a simple, efiicient and durable construction which may be made in any desired size and shape.

With these and other objects in view the ing my invention, and which shows one form of razor blade handle attached thereto.

The device or holder has an elon ated surface element or plate 10 which may e of any desired shape and size, though the plate is preferably substantially rectangular, and protruding from one end of the plate may view taken on the line of one face of the plate 10, and adjacent to one of its side edges is a recess 12, though instead of the recess the plate may be apertured. The recess 12 is substantially rectangular, and this recess is of a size to freely accommodate therein the mar 'nal bead or-flange, as 13, of a well known cm of safety razor blade, as 14 Fig. 5. The

recess is of a width approximately one-half the width of the plate or support 10, and protruding from the recessed face of the plate between its second side edge and the recess are a number of spaced knobs or lugs, as 15 and 16. 1 These knobs are preferably circular in shape as well as being spaced I from each other, besides being of sizes so as to be freely passed through the holes 17 and 18 of another well known make of safety razor blade, as 19 Fig. 5, and the plate 10 "is considerably narrower than the razor blade.

In order to removably hold the razor blade from accidental movement when applied on the surface element or late 10, a bar or jaw,

When the form of razor blade 14 is applied to the device for honing and sharpening, the blade is arranged on the plate. so that its flange 13 is disposed in the recess 12 of the plate following the swinging of the bar from the plate, therazor blade being also arranged so that its blade part proper will lay upon the knobs 15 and 16 of the plate, while the cutting edge of the blade protrudes beyond the plate. hen the form of razor blade 19 is applied to the device for honing the blade is arranged on the plate 10 so that its knobs l5 and16 will be disposed through the holes 17 and 18 of the razor blade, and subsequent to this manner of applying either of the blades on the plate the bar 20 is reversely swung upon the plate 10 and upon the razor blade.

Serving as means to releasably lock the bar 20 to the plate 10 whereby the razor blade will be removably clamped against accidental displacement, I provide a catch,

The catch 22 may be of any suitable type, though the form illustrated consists of providing in the central part of the end of the plate 10 which is opposite to the shank 11 a notch, as 23, and on the end of the bar 20 opposite to its pivot 21 is a lug or short preferably-cylindrical with a rectilinear free end having a threaded socket 26 therein. In the foregoing description, I have em-v bodied the preferred form of my invention, but I do not wish to be understood as llmiting myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be-made therein without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this inventlon, therefore, I reserveto myself the r1 ht to make such changesas fairly fall within the scope thereof.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, in a razor blade holder, of aisubstantially rectangular plate having a recess in one of its faces with spaced knobs protruding from the plate adjacent to the recess, a bar having one end pivoted to one end of the surface element so that its other part may be swung crosswise of the plate as well as crosswise of the recess toward and from the knobs, and a head on the plate, having a threaded socket to allow different handles ofsafety razors to be removably attached to the plate.

The combination, in a razor blade holder, of a substantially rectangular plate having a recess in one of its faces with spaced knobs also protruding from the plate adjacent to the recess, a-bar having one end pivoted to one end of the plate so that its other part may beswung crosswise of the plate as well as crosswise of the recess toward and from the knobs, means associated ,with the bar and with the plate whereby the bar and plate may be releasably locked together, and a head on the plate having a threaded socket to allow different handles of safety razors to be removably attached to the element.

3. The combination, in a razor blade holder, of an elongated plate having a recess in one of its faces with spaced knobs also protruding from the plate adjacent to the recess, a bar having-one end pivoted to one end of the plate so that its other part may be swung crosswise of theplate as Well as crosswise of the recess toward andifrom the knobs, means associated with the bar and with the plate whereby the bar and element may be releasably locked together, a headon the plate having a threaded socket, and

means removably mounted in the socket whereby a safety razor handle having a threaded socket may be detachably fastened to the head.
