CONCRETE-FORM WIRE-CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1921.
Application filed July 1, 1919. Serial No. 307,899.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW B. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crockett, in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Concrete-Form Wire-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
One of the objects of my present invention is the provision of a clamp for use to advantage in the wiring of concrete forms to prevent spreading of the forms; the said clamp being ada ted to materially facilitate the wiring 0 forms, as hereinafter set forth.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a concrete form construction embodying my novel clamps as permanent elements thereof.
Uther objects and practical advantages of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claim when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1' is a perspective of so much of a concrete form as is necessary to illustrate the embodiment of my novel clamp therein.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective of one of the clamps, illustrating the manner of fastening a wire therein.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in both views of the drawings.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings I illustrate the upright membersl of a concrete form with wires 2 extending between said uprights with a view to preventing spreading of the upright and the parts at the inner sides thereof, and I also show four of my novel clamps 3 as properly applied to the uprights and as holding the wires 2 to the uprights.
The clamps 3 identical in construction, and therefore a detail description of the one shown in Fig. 2 will suilice to impart a definite understanding of all of the clamps that are to be embodied in a form.
By particular reference to Fig. 2, it will be observed that the clamp alluded to comprises a body 4 and a wedge 5. The wedge has an angularly disposed head 6 at one end, and 1s tapered from said head to its opposite end where it has a lateral projection 7. 'ljhe body 4 is provided with a wedgereceivlng channel 8, one side wall of which is toothed or serrated, as indicated by 9. It will also be noticed that the said channel is tapered toward one end and is bridged adjacent to its opposite end, as indicated by 10. At one end the body 4 is provided with an angularly disposed and comparatively wide plate 11 which is apertured at 12.
In the practical use of my invention, two of the clamp bodies 4 are arranged on two opposite uprights 1, and with the plates 11 opposed to the outer edges of the uprights and nailed thereto through the apertures 12. A length of wire is then inserted in the channels 8 of the bodies 4:, after which the wedges 5 are forced home in the channels 8, whereupon the wire will be securely fas tened to the clamps between the wedges 5 and the serrated, toothed or otherwise roughened side walls of the channels 8. Manifestly the head 6 and the projection 7 on each of the wedges 5 will prevent dis connection of the wedge from its body; also, that the described arrangement of the clamp bodies relatively to the uprights 1 and the gripping of the wires 2 by the clamps will effectually prevent spreading of the said uprights.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that -my novel clamps constitute material labor-saving devices, inasmuch as they render it feasible to cut the wire in uniform lengths, and also because they enable an operator through the medium of the clamps and wire sections of a predetermined length, to conveniently and quickly produce a form of even width throughout.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patcut, is:
A clamp for use in concrete forms, comprising a body of general right angle configuration tO fit against a corner of a form upright and having an end plate with an aperture therein for the passage of a nail to fasten the body to said upright and also having a lateral arm at its rear end and having a portion at right angles to the end a latera1 projection at its forwardend. 10 plate and in the outer side of WlllfCll is a In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. longitudinal channel one side Wall 0 which T is serrated, a bridge extending across the ALDREVV SMITH channel at a point adjacent to the apertured Witnesses:
plate, and a tapered Wedge adjustable lon- \V. T. Hnss,
gitudinally in the channel of the body and H. J. HEYL.
