Description

Feb."10,1925. Y V1,525,835
P. TRUSKOWSKI l COW TAIL HOLDER Patented Feb. 10, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
IPAUL '.LIRUSIIOWSKLv O'F REMSEN, NEW YORK.
COW-TAIL HOLDER,
Application filed February 11, 1924. Serial No. 692,033.
T0 all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL T nUsKowsKr, a citizen of Poland, residing at Remsen, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cow-Tail Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cow tail holders.
An important object of the invention is to provide means for preventing cows from switching their tails during such times as they are being milked.
A further object of the invention is to provide means of the above mentioned type which is in the form of a resilient clamp that may be employed for securing a cows tail to one of its hind legs.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for restraining the tension of the resilient clamping means so that its engagement with the cows leg will -not result in injury to the latter.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, n
Figure 1 illustrates a fragmentary side elevational view of a cow, illustrated in dotted lines, and the tail holding means embodying this invention operatively associated therewith,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the tail holding device embodying this invention, and
Figure 3 is a side. elevational view of the' tail holder illustrated in Figs. l and 2.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 designates the arcuate jaw members which are provided at their outer engaging ends with oppositely rolled edges 6, as best illustrated in Fig. 2. These arcuate jaw portions 5 are formed integrally Vwith the handle portions 7 which are provided with side flanges 8 extending longitudinally of the edges of the same and terminating. at their inner ends in ears 9 that are apertured for receiving the bolt and nut 10 for the pur will thereby cause the curled edges 6 to be 65 n forced toward each other.
By inspecting Fig. 1, it will be seen that the cows tail 13 may be secured to the upper portion of the leg 14 by positioning the said tail and a portion of the leg between the arcuate jaws 5. The curled end edges 6 of the jaws 5 will provide smooth surfaces for engaging the leg 14.
It will be seen that the outer ends of the jaws 5 will not be in engagement with each other when the same are positioned upon opposite sides of the leg 14. This spacing of the ends of the jaws 5 will cause the resilient wire 11 to be under considerable tension with a result that the said ends 6 will so tightly engage the Cows leg that injury to the latter would be likely to result. For this reason, an arcuate, resilient metal strap 15 is secured to the end of one of the handles 7 and is provided with teeth 1G adjacent its free end which are to be employed for engaging the flange 17 carried by the end edge of the opposite handle 7 for retaining the jaws 5 in fixed relation in respect to each other. This holding of the jaws 5 will remove unnecessary pressure on 90 the leg 14.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from theL spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described the invention, I claim In a device of the type described, a pair of cooperating arcuate clamping jaws, a handle portion carried by each jaw, means for pivotally connecting said handles in proximity to said jaws, resilient means for normally retaining the outer ends of said jaws in enga ement with each otherVa and means caijrienbythe innen en ds l,of said handles "for viletaining said ijn ixd relation to each other against the action'of means including a transverse flange formed on the end edge of one handle and an arcuate resilient metal strap' carried by the Vend of the remaining` handle and having a pl'nxralitye fof, teeth, formed bon the l`free, end theijeoffadapted to selectively engage said *Y flange. Y said resilient means, said last mentioned Y In testimony whereof I afx my signature.
