UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SUPPORT FOR PEN-HOLDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 1, 1920. Serial No. 385,442.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, DAVID Monnis THOM- soN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the city of Toronto, county of York, l rovince of Ontario, in the Dominion o1 Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Pen-Holders, described in the following s ecilication and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, that form part of the same.
The principal objects of this invention are, to avoid the soiling of the table or desk through the laying or? a pen thereon, and to provide a simple form of pen rest which may be applied to ink bottles in such a way as to be always ready to hand when the ink is being used.
The principal feature of the invention consists in the novel arrangement of a supporting member within the ink bottle cap to support and hold the pen above the table or desk surface.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pen holder showing a pen supported therein.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a bottle cap showing a slightly modified construction.
Fig. 3 is a perspective detail of the holder member detached from the bottle cap.
In the ordinary use of a pen and ink, when the person laysthe pen down there is great danger of marring the cover of the table or desk through the pen rolling and in order to overcome this diiliculty and provide a ready means for supporting the pen I provide within the bottle cap 1 a forked member 2 preferably formed of a piece of spring Wire having the ends extending from the underside of the cap and adjacent to the extremities, the ends of the forked members are bent outwardly into a semi-looped shape 3 provided with flaring extremities l. This forms a very handy receptacle for the pen handle which is simply pressed into place between the flaring ends and is held securely from rolling.
In the form shown in Fig. 2 the supporting member 2 is formed of a single length of wire 5 having the central portion formed into a semi-circular spring loop 6 adapted to fit the inner periphery of the bottle cap. The ends 6 of the loop are turned radially inward and from the center extend upwardly forminga supporting fork 7.
A device such as described is extremely simple and can be applied to all ink bottles.
What I claim as my invention is 1. In a support for a pen holder, the combination with a bottle cap, of a forked member secured within the bottle cap and adapted to receive a'pen. holder.
2. In a support for a pen holder the 00111 bination with a bottle cap, of a spring wire loop adapted to fit within the rim thereof and having inwardly turned ends forming; a fork to receive and hold a pen holder.
3. In a support for a pen holder, the com bination with a bottle cap, of a pair of wire fingers extending inwardly from the top of the bottle cap having outwardly flaring bent ends adapted to spring apart and to grip and hold a pen holder.
DA VID MORRIS THOMSON.
