Inventor titi CARL G. CONFER, OF STJ'MD/lIITI-Hldit PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY VEHICLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1920.
Application filed February 5. 1920. Serial No. 356/175.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l. (Bun G. Coxren. a citizen of the l nited States. residing at Summithill. in the county oi Carbon and State of Pennsylvania. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide a toy vehicle in the form of a dying machine which will be so constructed that a child can which will provide healthful amusement for children.
These objects. and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner. reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toy veh cle constructed in accordance with my invention. v
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of my improved toy vehicle taken centrally through the length thereof.
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional elevation taken on the line 44 of Fia 2 showing. in full lines. a hinged section of an upper plane or wing in i s opbn position.
*leferring to the drawin s. 5 represents a hollow hodv portion which has an opening ti between its front and r ar ends. A seat '1' is slid wi hin aid body portion below the opening 6 The bot om 8 ot' the body portion directly in front of the seat 2 is di continued to provide an opening 9 which i located directly over a crank axle 10. This crank axle is iournaled in two bearings ll which de end from the body portion 5 and has two integral cranks l2 and 13 bent therein: aid cranks being preferably set at 180 to each o her. Ground-onqagiuq driving wheels 14 are moun ed on he axle at positions outside of the bearings 11.
tine of the wheels 14 is secured to said axle 10 while the other runs freely to assist in the steering of the vehicle.
The body portion 5 of the seat 7 tapers rearwardly and has a yoked bearing 15 pivotally secured thereto. A short axle 16 is journaled in the bearing 15 and has end portions 17 which project beyond the sides of the bearing l5. as clea rlv shown in Fig. 3.
The rear of the body portion has a tail vane 31 secured thereto: said tail vane having an extension 32 whi h can be made of sheet. metal and partly wrapped around the body portion and secured to the bottom edocs of the l'iottoin portion as shown at 33 in Fig. 3. disc ll preterabiv mount an imitation propeller 34 on the trout end of the body portion; said propeller being capable of being turned on a stud bolt as a pivot;
the stud bolt being; secured. in the extreme stood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof and hence l do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to maize such changes and alterations as fairly 00113.6 within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A toy vehicle of the character described including; a hollow body portion; groundengaging wheels supporting; said body poi tion said body portion having an opening in its top and a seat located below said opening; and an imitation plane above the level of said seat, said having; a hinged central section located directly over the seat in the body portion and capable of being swung open to provide a space to permit a child to get into and out of the opening in the body portion; substantially as described.
2. A toy vehicle of the character described including a body portion having sides and front and rear parts providing an opening; a seat located within said opening; an imitation plane above the level of said seat, said plane having" 'a hinged central section located directly over the seat in the body portion and capable of being swung open to provide a space to permit a child to get into and out of the opening in the body portion; other portions representing lower imitation plane sections projecting laterally from and secured to said body portion below the opposite end portions of said top plane; and posts connecting said end portions of the top plane and the lower plane sections; substantially as described.
testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
