UNITED STATES \VILLIAIII I. KATOW, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
VEHICLE TOY.
Application filed November 22, 1924. Serial No. 751,602.
Wy invention relates to and'has for its purpose the provision of a toy comprising a plurality of elements capable ot being readily disassembled and reassembled in various combinations to form toys in simulation of different forms of vehicles.
I will describe only one form of vehicle toy embodying my invention, and will then point out the novel features thereof in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a view showing in top plan one form of toy embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a view showing the toy in side elevation Figures 3 to 6, inclusive, are views showing in perspective the main body elements of the toy;
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the block comprised in the toy;
Figure 8 is a propeller;
Figure 9 shows the pins for connecting the body elements of the toy;
Figure 10 shows in perspective the wheels comprised in the toy;
Figure 11 shows the pins or axles for the wheels;
Figures 12 to 22, inclusive, show in side elevation the various forms of vehicles which can be made from the elements shown in Figures 3 to 11, inclusive.
Similar eference characters refer to sin1ilar parts in each of the several views.
Referring specifically to the drawings, and particularly to Figures 1 and 2, my invention, in its present embodiment, comprises two body elements and 26 consisting of substantially flat boards or sheets of metal, the ends of which are tapered. and rounded as indicated at 27. These body elements are provided at corresponding points with openings 28 through which pins 29 are adapted to extend for connecting the elements in the manner shown. In the present form of vehicle, which represents a field gun, a spacing block 30, substantially semicircular in outline, is interposed between the body elements 25 and 26 and secured therehetween by one of the pins 29. This spacing block also provides a mounting for a pair of front wheels 31 provided with a pin or axle 32 which extends through the wheels and block so that the latter is supported for rolling movement. The rear ends of the body elements 25 and 26 are provided with rear wheels 33 mounted on a pin or axle 34 extended through the wheels and through the elements, as clearly illustrated. It is to be understood that in all instances the pins are constructed to have sung fits within the openings so as to hold the wheels and elements together.
In the embodiment of my invention shown in Figures 1 and 2, the gun of the vehicle is represented by a body element reversely tapered from a point adjacent one end and provided with a plurality of transverse openings 36 through which pins are adapted to be extended for securing the body between the elements 25 and 26 and in the inclined position shown in Figure 2. The body element is also provided with other transverse openings 37, shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, which are adapted to receive pins, the upper opening 37 in the present instance receiving a pin for the mounting of a block 38 which is adapted to represent the sight of the gun. An intermediate opening 37 receives another pin upon which is mounted a wheel 39, identical with the wheels 31 and 33. simulating a steering wheel.
Referring now to Figure 12, I have here shown certain of the elements disclosed in Figures 3 to 11 associated to simulate a steam shovel, the body element 35 constituting the body of the vehicle, the body element 27 constituting the crane, and the block the shovel.
In Figure 13 I have shown the body element 25 inverted, and the element also inverted with respect to its position as shown in Figure 2, and the block 38 mounted adjacent the upper end of the element 35, with pins extending from the same. The parts of the toy as assembled are designed to represent a tank gun, the block 30 being mounted on the element 35 to represent the housing of the tank.
In Figure 14, the elements are assembled to represent a boat. a propeller 40 being mounted on one of the pins at the rear end of the toy, as shown.
In Figure 15 the parts are assembled to represent a HIOIIOPlFUlC, and a. hi-plane in Figure 19.
Figure 16 represents a racing type of automobile, and Figure 17 acrane vehicle.
Figure 18 represents a steamship, and Figure 20 a conventional form of automobile.
Figure 21 is in simulation of a motor truck, and Figure 22 a dumping truck.
From the foregoing description, taken in fit conjunction with the accompanying drawi'ngs, it Will be manifest that I have provided a toy composed of a minimum number of: cheap and inexpensive elements which can be readily disassembled and reassembled in various Ways to represent vehicles of different characters.
Although I have herein shown and described only one form of toy embodying my invention, it is to be understood that. various changes and modifications may be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention and the spiritv and scope of the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
In a combination toy, a frame comprisiuga pair of flat elongated side members having parallel sides and. reversely tapered rounded ends, the members having come spending; transverse openings adjacent their corners and other openings disposed -substuntially medially between their ends and adjacent their side edges, a plurality of removable pins adapted to be extended through said openings for detachably connecting the members in spaced relation, an oblong reversely tapered flat body element having a plurality of transverse openings through which the pins are adapted to be extended. said body element adapted to be disposed between the side members and interchangeably connected thereto by certain of the pins. and a substantiallysemicircular fiat spacer block having; a plurality of transverse openings and disposed between the side members, said block adapted to be interchangeably connected to the side niembe x: or body members bythe extension of certain of the pins through the .members and block, said sideinembers, body element and spacer block adapted to be reassembled to provide various combinations to term toys in the simulation of diil'erent forms of rehicles.
