Description

G. H. WILLIAMSON;
DOLL WALKING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED SEPT-22.1919.
Patehted 0ct.12,1920.
m/r I A TTORNE Y5 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE H. WILLIAMSON, lDF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DOLL WALKING DEVICE.
l Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 0a. 12, 1920.
Application filed September 22, 1919. Serial No. 325,284.
rangements herein described and claimed.
sided with a central groove 2 leaving" An object of my invention is to provide a device by means of which a doll may be supported and the feet of the doll caused to reciprocate in a manner which closely simulates walking.
A further object of my invention is to provide a doll walking device having a support, and operative mechanism for actuating the feet or legs of the doll, comprising relatively few parts, these parts being so disposed as to be effectually covered or con cealed by the dolls dress when viewed from the front, and to be partially concealed when viewed from the sides.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device which will support the doll in an upright position when left standing, as, for instance, when temporarily abandoned by the child who has been playing with the toy.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device which is relatively simple 7 in construction and of low manufacturing cost.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. forming part of this application, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the device as applied to the doll,
Fig. 2 is a section along the line 22 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a section along the line 3-3- of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a section along the line 4-4 of' Fig. 1, and
Fig. 5 is a section along the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.'
In carrying out my invention, I provide a wheel or roller 1 (see Fig. 2) which is proa hub portion 3. Looped around the hub wardly, are looped around the wire 5 at 10,
and then are bent upwardly, being twisted as shown. One wire 9 terminates at 11 (see Fig. 4),v while the otheris extended,'bent back upon itself at 12 to form asemi-circular support 13, bent again at 14, and is secured to the end of the companion wire 11.
On the opposite faces of the wheel or rollerl are pins 15 which are connected by links 16 with semicircular yokes or retaining members 17 formed of small pieces of wire bent in circular form, as clearly shown in the drawings.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. 7
The doll 18 is placed against the semicircular support 13 which extends about the waist and is secured thereto by means of a ribbon 19 which is preferably of a color to match the dress or trimming of the doll.
.The ankles of the doll are placed in the retaining members 17 and are secured by means of ribbons 20.
Viewing the doll from the front, the supportingmemberaaswell as the means for operating the legs of the doll, are effectually concealed. Now by grasping the handle and pushing the device forwardly, the wheel 1 will rotate and will cause a reciprocation of the legs of the doll in a manner closely simulating a person walking. The members 7 constitute slidable feet or legs to the device, thus obviating the necessity of additional wheels. -The device is arranged so that when the doll is secured in position, the toy can be left with the doll standing. It will be observed that the supports are the central wheel 1 and the looped feet 7 which give a three point support.
The device is relatively simple in construction, and is not liable to easily get out of order. 1
I claim: 1 p
1. A doll walking device, comprising a wheel having a central peripheral groove,- a support. famed of a pair of twisted was,
one of said wires being extended at the upper end of said support and bent back upen itself to form a semi-circular retaining mem I her, a single piece of wire having its middle 7 portion formed into a bearing disposed withthen diverging and extending downwardly to" each form a' slidable foot, a yoke arranged to be secured to each leg of the doll,
a link pivotally'secured to each yoke, the ends of the links being pivotally secured to.
the opposite faces of the wheel, and means for securingthe body of the doll to said semi-circular retaining member. 7 r
2. A- dollwalking device comprising a V- shaped support formed of a pair of twisted wires, one of said wires being extended at the upper end of said support and bent back upon itself to form a 'semi-circular'retaining member, a handle secured to the other end of said V-shaped support for propelling the device, means for securing the body. of
-for and its ends twisted together and bent rearwardly' and upwardly to conne'ctflwith said V-shaped support, the ends of the wire then diverging and being bent downwardly 35 to each form a slidable foot, ayoke formed of a single piece of wire having a portion of its length formed into an eyelet and an. other portion of itslength bent back upon itself to form a semi-circular retaining'member'adaptedfto receive a leg of the' doll, means for securing each leg ofthe doll to one of the last named semi-circular retaining members, a link pivotally secured to the eyelet of each of said yokes, the ends of the links being pivotally secured to the opposite faces of thewheel, whereby the legs of the doll are reciprocated in a 'manner which closely simulates walking when the wheel is revolved. i
