Description

A. DAYeN.
VTOY.
APPLICATION FILED DEC-19, 1919 Patented Sept. 28, 1920.
Illllllllllll WITNESS:
ATTORNEY.
- body ALBERT DAYON, OF DOLLARI), SASKATCHEVIAN, CANADA.
` TOY.
To @ZZ whom t may concern VBe it known I, Arienn'r DAYON, a subject of the King of England, residing at Dollard, in the Province of vSaskatchewan, Dominion `of Canada, have inventedV new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specilication,
My present invention pertains to toys `of the kind in which gures are actuated by av `made a part hereof-z Figure l is a side elevation toy.
F ig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan of the toy.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section, taken in the plane indicated by the line 4 4 of Fic'. 2.
imilar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
Among other elements my novel toy comprises a casing-like body 1 that is open at its lower end.
Journaled in the side walls of the body 1 is an axle 2 that has fixed thereon ground wheels 3, and is provided at about its center with a tappet 4. The forward portion of the 1 is supported by a ground wheel 5.
Extending upwardly from the top wall of the body 1 are hollow projefftions 6 and 7, and movable vertically in the projection 7 is a ligure 8 simulating a clown or the like, and equipped, by preference, with a stick.
Disposed in the projection 6 is a stationaryfigure 9 having a movable varm 1() and of my novel also having a rock-shaft 11 on which is a forwardly extending rod 12 to which the arm 10 is connected so thatv the two will move in concert. The rod 12 is designed to simulate a stick that is wielded by the figure 9 and is designed to strike on or near the yligure 8 coincident with sudden downward movement` of the ligure 8.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 28,v 1920.
Application led December 1S, v1919. Serial No. 345,965.
Connected to and depending from the ligure 8 is a rod 13, and connected to and depending rroni a crank 14 on the rock-shaft '1l is a rod 15. Fulcrumed in the body 1 is alever 16 the arms of which are connected to the rods 18 and 15. A coiled spring 17 is interposed between the rear arm of the lever 16 and lower cross-bar 18 in the body, said spring being held against lateral deflection by a pin 19 that rises from the cross-bar 18 and .extends loosely through the spring and also through the rear arm of the lever 16.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that incidental to forward movement of the toy, the tappet 4 will engage and depress and suddenly release the rear arm of the lever 16; also, that the said rocking of the lever will be attended by raising of the forward figure 8, and also by raising of the stick or rod complementary to the rear ligure 9. Then when the lever 16 is released from 'the tappet 4, the spring alluded to operates to suddenly depress the figure 8 and violently swing the rod of the rear figure 9 downwardly so that the effect is as if the ligure V8 is knocked downwardly through the medium of the stir-k or rod wielded by the ligure 9. This operation of course is repeated frequently in concert with forward movement of the toy, and is obviously calculated to amuse and maintain the interest of a child. Y
It will also be apparent from the foregoing that my novel toy issusceptible or" be` ing cheaply and strongly manufactured. and that it is well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which figure toys are ordinarily subjected.
As shown in Fig. 1, I prefer to denominate my toy The War at Ci rcus,7 and I also prefer to embellish the projections 6 and 7 with the flags of the entente and the central powers, respectively; the flag of Great Britain being on the projection 6 and the flag of Germany being shown on the projection 7 l/Vhen the toy is embellished in the manner described, the amusement that it is calculated to afford will be manifestly increased, inasmuch as the operation of the toy is attended bythe clubbing of the central powers by the entente.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. A toy comprising a casing-like body open at under side, a transverseshaft or axle ournaled inthe side walls of the body and provided with ground wheels and a tappet, hollow projections ony the upper side of the body, a ixed' ligure in one oi':l said fpro. jections, a vertically movable figure in rthe other `projection, a rock-shaft journaled in Y the ixed'igure and having a forwardly enV ltending rod and also having a rearwardly extending crank, a rod connected te lthe vertically-'movable igure and extending downwardly through the top wall 'of' 'the bodyinto the interiorl thereof, a rod conintermediate point Yof-its length in the body and having-,its arms connected to said rods and also 'having one of its arms arranged to Vbeengageol and depressed and suddenly released byisaid tappet, a cross-bar in the body below said arm, a pin ,carried by said cress-` Wbar and lextending upwardly and loosely through said arm, and a spring surrounding-the pin and interposedy between Vsaid vcross-bar andthe underside of vsaid arm.
A 2. A toy comprising a body, .a ground wheel connected with the body, a vertically movable ligure, second gure provided with a. rock-shaft Von which is a rod anda crank, a lever mounted inthe body and hav# ing arms connectedV with: the vertically movable igure and the crank of the rock-shaft, a tappet actuatable by the ground wheel depressing and suddenly lreleasing one arm of the lever, and a spring that is tensioned by said depression of said-'armand serves on the release thereoirl to suddenly raise the varm and roclrfth'e leven ln' testimony whereoil aifiX my signature.
