UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT ADAMS, OF EAST ENTERPRISE, INDIANA.
vIMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-KlNDLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,395., dated February 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT ADAMS, of East Enterprise, in the county of Switzerland and State of Indiana, have invented certain Improvements in Fire-Kindlers, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to the combination of two, three, or more pieces of dry Wood, with a nail or its equivalent, and a solution of combustible material in such a manner that they will kindle a re.
Figure l shows the kindler as it is 'ready to be set in the fireplace. Fig. 2 shows the pieces of the kindler as they are before fastening them together by the nail or its equivalent.
A is the kindler, with the pieces of Wood 1 2 3, &c., laid at right angles to eachother on top of each other, and fastened in the center by a nail, B, or its equivalent. The length, Width, and thickness of pieces of Wood 1 2 3, &c., are governed by time required to kindle a fire. After the pieces of Wood l 2 3, &c., are fastened together by the nail B, or its equivalent, they are to be dipped in the combustible solution and are then ready for use.
To operate my improvement, apply a match to the side of the center that is put down, and place it in the hre-place, so that it will rest ou the ends of the sticks l 2 3, Snc., and then pile the Wood or coal on it. By resting the fire-kindler A thus on the ends of the sticks l 2 3, &c., a. sufficient draft is obtained to make the re burn to a certainty. Y
I claim as my inventionl. The combination of the sticksl 2 3, Sac., Wit-h the nail B or its equivalent, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
2. The X -shape, together with the rightangle one-piece-uponanother construction of my kindler and resulting convenience in applying the combustible solution to the whole or part of the kindler, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
ROBERT ADAMS.
