To all whom it may concern:

.Be it known .that I, Gnonon EDWARD liincin subject of'the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at The 'loplars, (dub rindi. New South Wales, Australia, have in vented certain new and useful Improve ments in Pan-Closet Cabinets, ofwhich the following is a spec-ification.

This invention relates to pan close-t cab inets with lift-up seats, and consists in means for effecting closure and opening of the seat lid automatically and holding said lid inopen position while the cabinet is in use.

The cabinet comprises an open top casing preferably constructed of sheet metal, a seat mounted with hinges thereon, a counterbalanced folding lid mounted onthe seat, a footboard. carried on levers fulcrumed on the casing and mechanically connected with said lid and a movable sill on the front edge of the seat mechanically connected with said footboard. The casing is open below and is fitted with grip for holding the pan in a fixed position.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side-elevation of the cabinet as it ap pears when closed; Fig. 2 a side elevation of the same as it appears when the seat is V lifted; Fig. 3 a longitudinal vertical section of the same with thes'eat closed and the seat lid raised; and Fig. 4 a perspective view corresponding with Fig. 1.

The case 1 is constructed of sheet metal with wire roll top edges; it is open bottomed and open topped and is fitted with pan holding springs 2 and a ventilator connection 3 at rear side. The seat panel 4; covers the case and is hinged thereto as shown at 5, so that it may be lifted up as shown in 2 to facilitate removal and insertion of the pan. 6 are frame battens which brace the seat and offer support at their forward extremities for the sill bar 7 which is piv' otally mounted by side lugs 8 to the seatpanel 1 so that it may swing upward as shown in Figs. 1 to -l. The lid 9 is fixed on a back batten 10 which is hinged at 11 to a frame batten 12 fixed across the back of the seat panel at. The lid 9 is counterbalanced by weights 13 hung on rearwardly projecting arms 14 which are screwed to the ends of the lid batten 10. A pan closet consisting of a case open at the top, a seat panel hinged to the back of saidcase andadapted to fold down there on, frame battens mounted on the underside of said panel and bracing the same, the forward ends of said battens projecting beyond the end of said seat, a gravity closed lid hinged at its rear end to the rear part of said seat, a canting sill hinged to the front of said seat and supported in its operative position by said forward projections of said battens, a canting footboard, levers carrying said footboard and fulcrumed on the side of said case, press rods between said sill and said footboard adapted to de press the footboard when the sill is clepressed, and link connections between said levers vand said lid.

5. The combination with a pan closet cabinet of a seat hingedly connected to said cabinet, a seat lid hingedly connected to said seat a pivotally mounted member at the lower front part-of thecabinet, means operated by said member for raising the seat lid, means niovably mounted'at the front of the cabinet and arranged when moved to operate the first named .means,and a member pivotally mounted i uiponzth'e seat and ,arranged to be positionedein operative relation to the second named means by movement of the seat into normal lowered position.

6. The combination with a pan closet cabinet ofa seat :hingedly connect-ed thereto, a seat lid hingedly connected to said seat, a member pivotally mounted at the lower front part of the cabinet,:means operable by said member for positively raising the seat lid, means movably mounted at the front part of the cabinet, arranged when mored to operate said pivoted member, anda second pivoted member mounted on the seat at the front edge thereofzandiarranged tobe positioned in operative relation :to the second named means by movement of the seat into normal lowered position.
