Specification of Letters Patent. i

Application filed November 25,- 1919. Serial No. 340,534. Y i
This invention relates to fences and more particularly to metal fences made up of a series of spaced members bound together.
The invention has for an object to provide a simple construction in which the panels or sections between the posts are made up in individual units which may be readily assembled together or taken apart.
For further comprehension ofthe' invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanymg drawings, and to the appended claims in wh ch the various novel features of the invention are more particularly setv forth.
Figure 1 of the drawings is an elevation of'one section or panel ofa fence constructed according to my invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail enlarged horizontal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail enlarged vertical sectlon on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. V
In the drawings 1 and 2 represent a pair of metal fence parts which may be of suitable construction and set in the ground in Extending between these posts are the top and bottom fence rails 3 and 41 which may be made of angle iron and rigidly'sec'ured t0 the posts in any suitable manner.
Extending between and rotatably mounted in the rails 3 and 4 adjacent the respective posts 1 and 2 are a pair of vertical bars 5 and 6 of circular cross section having squared upper ends 7 and 8 which project upwardly beyond the top rail 3, these bars serving as a support for the fabric constituting the panel.
This fabric consists of a plurality of horizontal rods 9 which extend between the bars 5 and 6 and are suitably spaced apart, the ends of these rods being hooked to take over the bars as indicated at 9' in Fig. 3.
Formed on each of the bars 5 and 6. extending substantially the entire distance between the top and bottom rails is a rib 10 which may as here shown be in the form of a separate strip inserted in a suitable slotin the rails, this rib being provided to enable the hooked ends 9 to be sprung off the bars when desired by simply rotating the latter.
Extending vertically between the rods 9 to complete the panel are short rod lengths 11 which are bent at one end, as shown at 12 in Fig.2 to form eyes by which theyare' hinged upon the rods. Each of these rods 9, except elther thetop or bottom one, has
.a series of the rod lengths 11 hinged thereon by means of the eyes 12, the opposite ends of the rod lengths being provided with the integral clip-jaws 13 which-grip the adjacent ones of the horizontal rods 9 as shown in Fig. 2 these jaws being normally bowed toward one another and pressed upon the rods 9.
The rod lengths 11 are preferably arranged in vertical rows spaced evenly between the bars 5 and 6 to present the appearance of stakes or pickets, the jaws of one rod length, gripping the rod 9 closely adjacent the eye of the next rod length of the vertical series or row.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is a 1. In a fence panel consisting of posts, top and bottom rails extending between said .posts, bars extending between and rotatably 2. In a fence panel consisting of. posts,
top and bottom rails extending between said posts, bars extending between the said rails adjacent the said posts, a series of horizontal rods hooked upon said bars at their ends, and a series of vertical rod lengths hinged upon the said horizontal rods at one end,
and means detachably connecting the opposite ends of said rod lengths to the adjacent ones of the said horizontal rods.
3. In a fence panel consisting of posts, top and bottom rails extending between said posts, bars extending between the said rails adjacent the said posts, a series of horizontal rods hooked upon said bars at their ends,
and a series of vertical rod lengths hinged upon the said horizontal rods at one end, and means detachably connecting the opposite ends of said rod lengths to the adjacent ones of the said horizontal rods said means comprising a pair of integral clip-jaws formed on the ends of thesa'id rod lengths.
4. In a fence panel consisting of posts,
L top and bottom rails extending between said posts, bars extending between the said rails adj acent the said posts and rotatably mount- -ed therein, a series of horizontal rods having their ends hookeduoversaid bars, pro- 10 jections carried by the said bars, adapted to disengage the said hooked ends from the barswhen the latter are rotated, a series of rod lengths hinged at one end to said horizontal rods, said rod lengths having integral clip-j mm on their opposite ends engaging adjacent ones of the said horizontal rods. In testimony whereof Ihave aflixedmy signature.
