Description

Mode 0f- Ornamenting Harness.v
No. 123,709. Patented Feb.13,187l2.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. KI'IGH, OF CRESTLINE, OHIO.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,709, dated February 13, 1872.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. KITcII, of Orestline, in the county of Crawford and State 'of Ohio, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in dies for Forming Raised `Work on Harness, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being` had to the accompanying drawin g and the letters of reference marked thereon making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan view of a female die. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the male die. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the dies and leather whenthe raised work is being formed. Fig. L is a vertical sectional view of the raised work when attached to the leather. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the raised work.
The nature of Iny invention, which is a new article of manufacture, consists in stamping, by the use of male and female dies, any desired design, such asis now represented on the raised work of the harness, on an independent strip of leather. The advantages of the invention consist in furnishing the means whereby a harness can be most elaborately and elegantly finished at a most triiling expense.
The construction and operation of my invention is-as follows: A and B represent an ordinary male and female die. The desired design is cut in each die--on AB, being countersunk, and on A, being raised. O is a strip of leather, and, after being suitably softened by moisture, to be easily manipulated,`is placed between the dies, and they are brought together by any suitable clamping device. So soon as the strip O receives the desired impression itis removed and its border trimmed off. The strip is then in condition to be tacked or stitched Aonto any portion of the harness which it may be desired to ornament.
What I claim as. new, and desire to 'secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
As a new article of manufacture, the strips O, stamped by dies to represent any desired design for the raised work of harness, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed myname to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Witnesses: W. W. KITCH.
DAVID BETTs, THEADOE RTUBRT.
