Description

A. ALBRIGHT.
Improvement in the Manufacture of Rubber-coated Harness Trimmings. No.123,603. 12%;. Patented Feb.13,1872.
ANDREW ALERIGHT, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF RUBBER-COATED HARNESS-TRIMMINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,603, dated February 13, 1872; antedated January 27, 1872.
Srnorrronrron. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW ALBRIGHT, of Newark, in the county of Essex, and in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dies for MakingHarness-Trimmin gs Covered with Rubber and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.
My invention consists in making a pair of dies for pressing, polishing, and trimming the edges of the rubber-coating of harness-trimmings, so as to imitate stitching, and finish each article without hand labor, as hereinafter described. a
In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view or" one of the dies, both being alike Fig. 2 is a crosssection of a much-enlarged die.
In the operation of my invention, after the metal ring R, buckle, or other article is coated with the rubber, it is placed in one of the dies, A, and the other die, 13, is pressed down upon it as shown in Fig. 2. The dies, or the article itself, should be moderately heated, so that the pressure of the polished dies will polish or finish the article.
It will be seen in Fig. 2 that the dies are beveled oil at a and 0, so as to form sharp edges; these edges to out off the waste at the inner side of the ring, while the edges 0 cut oii' the waste on the outer side. In this way the act of pressing together the dies polishes, trims, and finishes each article in the best and quickest manner. a shows the indentations which produce an imitation of stitches. The dies touch each other at a; y 2, so that they cannot crush the articleplaced in them.
My improved dies are to be used in the manufacture of rings, buckles, hooks, terrets, and other harness-mountings, covered with hard rubber.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction and operation of the dies A and B with cutting edges a and a, substantially as described, for finishing rubber-coatedharness-mountings.
In testimony that I claim the above-described invention, I have hereunto signed my name.
ANDREW ALBRIGHT.
