Description

WALTER E. PARKINS, OF ROYALTON, MINNESOTA.
COMBINED STAKE-POCKET AND CORNER-BEACH specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 10, 191?.
Application filed October 28, 1916. Serial No. 128,851.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER E. PARKrNs', a citizen of the United States, residing at Royalton, in the county of Morrison and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Stake- Pockets and Corner-Braces, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined corner brace and stake socket used in connection with wood racks.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will materially reinforce and brace the corner of a wood rack, at the same time forming sockets for the reception of stakes.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device as above stated, which may be manufactured at a low cost, and easily applied, and which will not be cumbersome or bulky or in any way interfere or detract from the attractiveness of the rack.
The invention further contemplates the provision of a combined corner brace and stake socket for use in connection with a wood rack, to be made from a single piece of material and bent into shape to provide an economical, durable and eflicient construction.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the following novel combination and ar 'angement of parts as set forth in the following description, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure l is a perspective view of a corner of a wood rack having the improved corner brace and stake socket applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a detailed sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1, illustrating the manner in which the lateral flanges engage the rack;
Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of the invention detached.
Referring more specifically to the drawings like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the same comprises a pair of arms 1 and 2 disposed at right angles, in order to engage the corner of a wood rack orother wagon 3. The arms 1 and 2 are adapted to be attached to the corner of the rack by suitable fastening devices passing through apertures 4 formed in the arms. At their outer ends the arms are curved in a substantially semi-circular form as shown at 5 to provide sockets 6 for the insertion of stakes for a purpose readily understood.
For the purpose of strengthening the corner brace and in order to provide additional securing means thereof, the said brace is formed at the meeting point of the arms 1 and 2 with inwardly projecting upper and lower portions 7, providing lateral flanges and having apertures 8 for the insertion of suitable fastening devices. The brace is preferably made of cast metal, and as the flanges 7 are integral with both the arms 1 and 2, they form a pocket in connection with the said arm for the reception of the corner of the rack. -This construction effectually prevents any tendency of the corners of the rack to separate.
From the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be seen that the invention comprises a simple and efficient means for reinforcing and strengthening the corner of a wood rack, at the same time providing sockets for stakes, by means of which the load may be increased. WVhile the device as described is applied to a wood rack, it is of course applicable to vehicles of other description, or various other structures.
Having described the invention, what I claim is:
A combined corner brace and stake socket comprising right angular attaching arms, lateral flanges formed at the juncture of said arms, and curved portions forming sockets adjacent the free ends of said arms.
In testimony whereof Ivaffix my signature.
WALTER E. PARKINS.
