To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OTTO SCHNEIDERREIT, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Extension-Tables, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a table of the extension type and more particularly to a table of this character having a circular top, although the construction of the table is such that the top may be of rectangular shape if preferred. I

The primary object of the invention is to provide an extensible table having a circular top provided with auxiliary leaves, which when the table is in extended position are arranged between and supported by the main leaf and end leaves of the table top, and when the table is to be closed, may be arranged upon the end leaves and slid therewith to a position in which said auxiliary leaves and end leaves underlie the main leaf of'the table.

Another object of the invention is to provide the auxiliary leaves of the table with supplemental sections for closing the spaces between the leaves of the table top when the table is in extended position, and by means of which the auxiliary leaves may be connected with the main leaf and end leaves of the table top and supported thereby.

A further object of the invention is to provide the end leaves of the table with prop legs which serve as an auxiliary support for the table when in extended position and which, through their pivotal connection with the end leaves of the table top, may be swung to lie in a plane parallel with the leaves and beneath the same when the table is closed, thus enabling the prop'legs to be concealed when not in use.

With these and other objects inview, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointedout in the claims.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, the letter A designates a table of the extensible type constructed in accordance with the invention and having a top 13 of circular shape, with which is connected to serve as a support therefor, a pedestal C having extending from the lower end thereof supporting legsD for contact with a support.

The top B has a main leaf 7, circular in shape and arranged above the top of the pedestal C and formed from sections 8 and having depending from its underface at diametrically opposite points" curved rim sections 10 between which extends a cross bar 11, rigidly secured between its ends to the top of the pedestal 0.

End leaves 12 of the top B which are semi-circular in shape and normally underlie the main leaf 7 of the top when the table is closed, have connected therewith pairs of spaced and inclined extension bars 13 alsohaving connection with the cross strip 11 and b means of which the end leaves are slidablfy connected with the table.

The extension bars 13 are each formed supported by nected through the medium of grooves 17 and tongues 18, with the bars 14f rigidly secured to the cross bar 11 and the sections 16 fixed to the end leaves of the table. 7 7

Each end leaf has secured to its underface adjacent its curved marginal edge a depending curved rim section 19, the ends of which, when the table is in closed position contact with the ends on the rim sections 10 and coact therewith in providing continuous mm more the table top with a clearly shown in Fig. 3 in the drawings.

Beneath each end leaf 12 of the top B is a pair of prop legs 20 which when the table is in extended position may be used as an auxiliary support for the table top, each of said legs being forked adjacent its upper end to provide arms 22 between which is pivoted a brace bar 23 hingedly connected with a block 2% on the rim section 19 of the end leaf beneath which the prop leg is arranged. 4

' Each prop leg 20 has pivotally connected therewith above its pivotal connection with the section 16 one end of a latch bar 25, which is supported in a guide 25 on an extension bar adjacent which, the latch bar is arranged. Ihe other end of the latch bar is recessed to form a locking head 26 engageable with a keeper 27 extending laterally from one of the sections 15, to enable the latch bar to hold the prop legs in active position.

Auxiliary leaves 28 are provided to be arranged in the openings between the main leaf and end leaves when the table is extended and are semi-circular in shape, and have formed in their straight marginal faces a pair of spaced and longitudinally extending grooves 29, corresponding to similarly arranged grooves 30 in the straight marginal faces of the end leaves 12 and in which may be received tongues 31 on supplemental top sections 32 for closing the openings between the leaves when the table is in extended position, said supplemental top sections having connected therewith hooks 33, the bills of which extend beyond the curved marginal edges of the supplemental sections to engage with keepers 3st on the main leaf and auxiliary leaves of the table top so that the auxiliary leaves may be connected with and the end leaves and main leaf when the table is in extended position.

Extending transversely beneath the main leaf 7 and journaled in the rim sections 10 thereon are a pair of cam actuating shafts 36 having mounted thereon cams 31 operable by said shafts to engage the extension bars 13 when the table is closed to lock the leaves against movement.

When the table is closed as shown-in Fig.

3 in the drawings and it is desired to extend the same, the shafts 36 are operated to release the cams from engagement with the extension bars and the end leaves moved to extended position which permits the prop legs to move to an active position.

The auxiliary leaves are now removed from the end leaves and placed in the openings between the end leaves and the main leaf, and the supplemental top sections 32 connected with the auxiliary leaves and the end and main leaves to close the spaces therebetween, and to enable the auxiliary leaves to be supported by the end and main leaves. When it is desired to closethe table, the supplemental sections from the table leaves and the auxiliary leaves placed upon the end leaves, after which the latch bars 25 are released from the keepers to permit the prop legs to be moved to an inactive position and the end leaves and auxiliary leaves carried thereby positioned beneath the main leaf of the table top.

When it is desired to only partially extend the table, the end leaves with the auxiliary leaves resting thereon are removed from beneath the main leaf of the table and a sumcient number of supplemental sections 32 are 32' are disconnected employed to close the spaces between the auxiliary leaves and the main leaf of the table, said supplemental sections'being secured in place throug the engagement with the hooks thereon with the keepers on the main leaf and by the tongues on the supplemental sections which are received in the grooves in the auxiliary leaves.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is at once apparent leaves forming the top thereof may be moved to a position to underlie the main leaf in cluded in the table top when the table is in closed position.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:

1.
