FURRING `AND PARTITION CHANNEL.
Be it known that I, VILBERT D. HENDER- soN, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing 'in the city and county of SanFrancisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in- Furring and Partition Channels, of which the following lisa specification.
My invention relates to a furrin'g and partition channel wherein opposed tongues havingJ tapered ends are upset from the web of the channel and are arranged to rigidly embrace a second channel arranged transversely thereto; and the objects of my invention are iirst, to provide an improved channel adapted to rigidly embrace and secure a second channel arranged trans- Y versely thereto; second, to provide an improved channel of the character described whereby a cheaper and more rigid construction of furring and partitions may be obtained; and third, to provide an improved channel for furring and partition construction that is adapted to greatly facilitate the work of securing the various channels and members together.
I accomplish these several features by means of the device disclosed in the drawings forming a. part of the present specification, wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar parts throughout the said specification and drawings, and in which- Figure 1 is a broken sectional view of a wall disclosing the channels secured thereto.

closing a modified form wherein the tapered ends are omitted.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral specification of Letters Patent.
1 is used todesignate a channel having opposed tongues 2' with tapered ends 3 thereon said tongues-'2 being taperedin opposite directions and preferably formed integral with the web 4 of the channel 1 by being upset from the said web 4. The base of each tongue is formed with anl arcuate portion 6' of such a radius as will not fracture the .metal asvwould be the case were the said has been set'between the tongues 2 the Said tongues are bent so that the Shanks thereof will lie parallel to each other and the outer or tapered ends 3 thereof will embrace and rigidly engage the farther4 side of the second or transverse channel, said tapered ends eX- tending beyond each other in the same plane, as disclosed in Figs. 2 and 7 of the drawings.

The channel-7 is provided with tongues 2 having tapered ends 3 as hereinbefore described, saidv tongues 2 of the channel 7 embracing and rigidly engaging al vertically disposed transverse channel 8 to which the metal l-ath may besecured'in the yusual manner. f
In Fig. 9 of thefdrawings I have disclosed another modified form of the channel wherein only one tongue is provided with an overlapping end 9, one overlapping end in this case, being suiiicient to retain the second or transverse channel 7.
It is obvious that a partition constructed of the hereinabove mentioned and described channels will possess stability7 may be easily and cheaply constructed and will eliminate the cost and labor of the Wire fastening novv in general use. It is also evident that a saving of time Will be effected, such saving of time being an important factor in construction Work of this character, by using the above described channels for the reason that the tongues are formed at pre-determined regular intervals and it is only necessary to put the channels in place and by suitable pliers, or other adequate means, bend the tongues 2 and the tapered ends 3 thereof into place so that the said tongues and tapered ends 3 thereof Will rigidly embrace and engage the channels ar-l ranged transversely thereto.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Copies of this patent may be obtained for A furring and partition channel having opposed rectangular tongues With complementary tapered ends upset from the web thereof; a second channel arranged between the tongues and transversely to the rst mentioned channel, said tongues engaging the sides of the. second channel and thereby rigidly retaining the same against the :first mentioned channel, the rectangular portions of the tongues being arranged on two sides of the embraced channel and the complementary tapered ends projecting beyond each other in the same plane and on the farther side of the second channel.
