ATTORNEYS HENRY AUGUSTUS RODRIGUEZ, or woon BROOK, PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD, BRITISH WEST INDIns.
GARTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. RODRIGUEZ, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 34 Wrightson road, Wood Brook, Port of Spain, Trinidad, British West Indies, have made an Improvement in Garters, of which the following is a specification.
My improved garter for supporting legs of socks or stockings is distinguished by a novel and simple construction and combination of parts which permit easy and quick application and adjustment of the garter, and render it comfortable for the wearer.
.The garter is hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which like parts are indicated by the same reference characters in the several views.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the garter as applied in use..
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the garter detached.
Figs. 3 and 4 are cross sections on the lines 3 3 and 4.4, respectively, of Fig. 1.
The garter comprises a band 1 having flat metal terminals or end pieces 2 and 3, a cord 4 attached to the terminal 2, a stocking fastening 5, secured to the free end of the cord, and a metal slide 6 attached to the cord and adapted to slide thereon.
The band 1 is made of elastic material. One end of the cord 4: is looped over the hooked end of the terminal 2, .and the other end is similarly attached to the stocking fastener 5. The latter comprises a metal piece whose upper end is provided with a hook like the terminal 2, and the lower portion of the fastening 5 is constructed in the manner of the well known form of fastening in which a button or knob-like projection is adapted to engage awire loop after the stocking has been applied to the latter.
The metal slide 6 is slightly curved lengthwise, and has an oblique slot 7 adjacent to its upper edge, which slot is adapted to receive a catch 8 formed" by a raised lip on the band terminal 3.
It will be noted that the garter is applied by hooking the catch 8, of the terminal 3 in the slot of slide 6 and by attaching the fastening 5 to the edge-of the stocking leg, as shown in Fig. 1. The band provides all the elasticity required for ease and comfort of the wearer, and the slide 6 is adapted for convenient adjustment of the cord 4.
As shown the cord passes through two holes formed on the lower side and near the ends of the slide 6, and the arrangement is such that the'slide has suflicient friction with the cordto hold it in any position to which it may be adjusted by sliding it on the cord. Thus the size of the garter will be easily and quickly adjusted as required Patented May 22, 1917.
for diiferent persons, and when the catch 8 is engaged with the oblique slot of the slide 6 it will hold securely until released manually.
The metal parts of the garter may be made of, or covered with, a non-corrosive material.
I claim v A garter comprising 'a band having at one end a fiat metal piece provided with a hook, a cord attached to the other end of said band, and a thin metal slide having two opposed slots through which the cord passes and in which it is held adjustably by friction, said slide having a third slot for reception and engagement of the aforesaid hook, as shown and described.
