WILLIAM BUCK, OF PORTSMOUTH, ASSIGrNORA TO HIMSELF AND WILLIAM W. URQUHURT, OF BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRIPFGUARDS FOR BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,701, dated J annary 16, 1872.
To whom #muy concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM BUCK, of Ports mouth, in the county ofBay and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Drip-Guard for Paint-Brushes; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon andbeing a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is an elevation of a paint-brush, inverted, with the ferrule of my attachment slipped over the brush-handle. Fig. 2 is'the same, with the addition of the receptacle, which is shown in section. l
Like letters indicate like parts in each ligure.
The object of this invention is to provide a guard or attachment to the handles of paintbrushes when used for paintingl ceilings and overhead work, to receive the drippings from the brush and prevent their falling on the i'ioor or objects below. The invention consists in the novel and peculiar construction of a sheetmetal receptacle, to be attached when required to the handle of a paint-brush for that purpose.
In the drawing, A represents the tapering handle of a paint-brush, and B a metallic ferrule of corresponding shape, slipped thereon as far as the shank of the brush. A nut, a,
threaded on its exterior, is secured to the ferrule about midway of its length. C is a conical tunnel or receptacle of sheet metal, threaded at b within its smaller opening to screw on the Jferrule B. D is a deiiector, consisting of an inward-Haring ange, which should be threaded or otherwise removably attached to the larger end of the receptacle C. The central opening in the flange should be a little larger than the handle ofthe brush, so that when in use the eXtra quantity of paint taken up by the brush may drip oft' the shank of the brush, falling on the ange, a-nd be conducted to the interior ofthe receptacle C, where it is retained when the brush is turned down to dip into the paint-pot by the detlector D. vThe receptacle may be emptied of its collected drippings by removing it from the handle, and thoroughly cleaned by removing from it the deiiector.
Should any paint run down the outer face of the deiiector when turned to dip the brush it will be caught on an intern ally-pro]- ecting lian ge at the edge of the deiiector, shown in Fig. 2.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The removable receptacle C, provided with the deflector D, in combination with the handle of a paint-brush, when constructed, arranged, and operated substantially as described and shown, for the purposes set forth.
WILLIAM BUCK..
