Application filed March 16, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MARGUERITE R. TOOLE and LUoIUs C. TOOLE, citizens of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motion-Picture-Theater Chairs; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in motion picture theater chairs and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device which will permit persons occupying seats in theaters to turn so as to permit others to pass when g0- ing to or from a seat.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which will prevent the chair from making a complete revolution.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a device which will permit persons to pass to and from their seats in theaters without annoying other persons already in their seats and without distracting their attention from the picture projected on the screen.
A further object of the invention is to provide a chair which eliminates the above very annoying features as each person can remain seated by simply turning to the right or left so as to let the persons coming into or going out of their seats pass and thereby not disturb anyone and at the same time permitting the persons who are seated to keep their eyes upon the screen.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view and elevation of a chair constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is an inverted perspective view of the chair.
Fig, 4: is a detail view of the track, and
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 1917.
Serial No. 84,644.
Fig. 5 is a detail view of the supporting arm which cooperates with the track.
Referring to the drawings numeral 1 designates the base of the chair having secured thereto and extending upwardly therefrom a standard 2, the upper end of the standard is provided with an angularly extending arm 3 the upper end of which carries a roller 4 for engagement with the track on the under side of the chair which will be more fully hereinafter described.
The chair consists of the seat 6 having a back 7 connected thereto and the usual arms 8. The under side of the seat has secured centrally thereof a plate 9 which is provided with a depending stem 10 for entrance into an axial bore 11 in the upper end of the standard hereinbefore referred to. The track is designated by the numeral 12 and consists of a semi-circular section of channel iron or a similar material having its flanges extending downwardly and received between the flanges is the roller on the arm hereinbefore referred to. It will thus be seen that the chair will be swivelly mounted on top of the standard and the opposite ends of the track are provided with suitable stops 13 for preventing the chair from swinging beyond a predetermined point.
Secured beneath the chair in any suitable manner is a suitable hat support 14: which consists of a pair of parallel bars supported on upwardly extending legs which are secured to the under side of the chair as clearly illustrated in the drawings.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the chair is assembled in the ordinary way and arranged so that it may the combination and arrangement of parts as Will fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is In a chair, a standard, a chair bottom swivelly connected to the standard, an arm extending upwardly and forwardly from the upper end of the standard, a roller journaled in the upper end of the arm, an arouate trough-shaped track secured to the under side of the chair bottom, the roller operating in the track, and Walls at opposite ends of the track providing stops to limit the movement of the chair bottom.
