KEG LINER AND CLEAT.
APPLICATION FILEID NOV. 22, 1916 Patented May 15, 1917.
- INVENTOR izarksj7i'i a/an STATES PA;
CHARLES FRANCIS LOFE, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
KEG Lnvnn AND cnna'r.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CnARLEs F.
residing, at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Keg Liners and. ats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and ,sists of a strap metal'device adapted to cross the head of the keg and engage the head, the ends of the device being bent over the edges of the keg staves and held in place by the end loop that is usually nailed to the outside of the keg near the end of the keg.
In its meredetail nature, the invention in cludes those-novel features of construction,
combination. and; arrangement of parts, all
of whicli iwii'l be fplly described and then be spe'eifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspee'tive'view illustrating .a keg with the invention applied.
Fig. '2 is a detail side elevation of the invention per se.
Fig. 3 is a detail side elevation, parts being broken away, illustrating the invention as appliedto a keg.
Fig. 4 is a detail section on the line H on Fig. 1.
In the drawing inwhich like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all of the figures, 1 represents the keg Which is provided with the usual headgroove 2 in which the head 3 is fitted, the head 3 being usually held in place by nailing.
In order that the heads may be quickly secured in place in a firm and convenient manner so that the head of the keg may not be removed or become loosened in transit, I provide the device which constitutes my invention and which consists of a pair of metal straps 4, one of which is provided with Specification of Letters Patent.

which is driven down over the end of the and over the projecting portions 10 of the hooks 8, the projecting portions 10 be .ing extended as at 12 so as to be susc eptible of being. bent up over the hoop 11, as cleariy indicated in Figs. 1 and 30f the drawing, ,the hoop 11 being fastened in place by the usual nails-l3.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,-
it is thought-the complete construction and the uses and advantages of the invention will be clear to those skilled in the art.
What I claim is: 1. In combination with a keg and its head and the hoop that embraces the staves adtained in place thereby.
2. In combination with a keg having .a
head and a hoop encircling the keg adjace };t to the head;of a head retaining device 0613-;
sisting of a pair of strap members adapted to lie across and engage the outside face of the head, means for securing said strap meinu bers together in crossedrelation, the ends of said strap members being hooked over the end of the keg and passed down between thekeg and the hoop, said strap members having their extremities bent up over the hoop to be retained thereby.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a head securing device comprising a pair of's'trap members, one of which is provided with tongues and the other with slots, the tongues of one of the members passing through the slots of and being clenched over the other member to secure said members together in crossed relation, said members having hook ends to fit over the end of a keg and terminating in portions adapted to be located between the keg body and the hoop at the head end of the keg and adapted to be bent back over the hoop for securing purposes, said strap members adapted to lie on the outside face of the head whereby the same may be applied to the keg after the head is in place.
