Description
G. T. MORITZ.
CIGARETTE CASE.
APPLICATION FILED NOV.22,19I6.
Patented May 8, 1917.
A TTOR/VEYS GEORGE T. MORITZ, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CIGARETTE-CASE.
Application filed. November 22,1916.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Gnonon T. Monrrz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city,of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cigarette-Case, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a cigarette having a lid which carries the cigarettes, the ends of the cigarettes be ing disposed in the body of the case when the lid is closed, so that when the lid is freed by a catch on the body, the lid will be thrown forwardly by a spring, and with it the cigarettes, to permit of the convenient withdrawal of the cigarettes from the lid.
Additional objects of the invention will ppear in the following specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is described.
In the drawings similar reference charactors denote similar parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View of the cigarette case body and lid which illustrates my invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Eig. 1.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the cigarette case has a body 5 and a. lid 6, the lid 6 being hinged to the body 5 at A spring 8 is secured to the lid 6 at 9, this spring 8 pressing against the interior of the body 5 so that when the lid 6 is freed from a catch 10, the spring 8 will serve to throw the lid 6 forwardly as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the draw ings.
Secured to the lid 6 is a strip 11 which is corrugated, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, to produce a row of recesses or cells 12 in each of which a cigarette may be disposed. The strip 11 is spaced from the catch 10 so that there is ample room to permit the projecting ends of the cigarettes to pass the catch 10 and the adjacent end of the cigarette case body 5 when the spring 10 is actuated.
It will be understood that with this con- Specification of Letters Patent.

struction the body 5 is held in the hands of the user, and the spring catch 10 is ac mated by pressing inwardly a bead or stud 13 which is disposed in an opening 1% in the casing body 5, and which rests against the spring catch 10. When this bead or stud 13 is pressed, a hook 15 on the spring catch 10 is freed from engagement with the lid 6 at an orifice 16, and the spring 8 serves to throw forwardly the lid with the cigarette-carrying means which consists of the strip 11 fashioned in the manner dcscribec.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1'. In a cigarette case, a hollow body hav ing substantially parallel sides and open at one end, the hollow body being adapted to be held in the hand of a user and having a catch in position to be actuated by the said hand when holding the body, a lid hinged to the open end of the hollow body on an axis disposed transversely of the said sides of the hollow body and having means for supporting a cigarette substantially parallel with the sides and with the ends of the hollow body, connecting its sides adjacent the open end of the hollow body, the lid being adapted to be held in closed position by the catch,' and a spring for throwing forward the lid with its cigarette-supporting means when the catch on the lid is actuated.
2. In a cigarette case, a hollow body having substantially parallel sides and open at one end, the hollow body being adapted to be held in the hand of a user and having a catch in position to be actuated by the said hand when holding the body, a lid hinged to the open end of the hollow body on an axis disposed transversely of the said sides of the hollow body, members secured to the lid and having a plurality of cells the axes of which are disposed substantially parallel with the sides and the ends of the hollow body connecting the sides adjacent the open end of the hollow body, the lid being adapted to be held in closed position by the catch, and a spring for throwing forward the lid with the said members when the catch on the body is actuated.
GEORGE T. MORITZ.
