PEN AND PENCIL CLIP HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 3, I917.
Application filed August 31, 1915. Serial No. 48,307.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZEBULUN S. FLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVest Mario-n, in the county of Marion and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen and Pencil Clip Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to pen and pencil clip holders.
' The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive device adapted to be secured within a pocket and capable of being engaged by a plurality of pen and pencil clips for interlocking the same with the pocket and effectively preventing pens and pencils from accidentally falling out.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pen and pencil clip holder of this character which may be quickly attached to a garment and which will not lessen the capacity of the pocket to which it is applied.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation of a pen and pencil clip holder constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied-to a pocket,
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of the same,
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the pen and pencil clip holder.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 designates a pen and pencil clip holder consisting of a plate of sheet metal or other suitable material of substantially oblong form preferably rounded at the corners and provided at the terminal portions with spaced perforations 2 adapted to enable it to be secured to the lining of a pocket by stitches 3 but any other suitable fastening means may of course be employed and the device is preferably applied to the inner wall a of the pocket 5.
The plate 1 is provided with a central longitudinal rib 6 formed by grooving or indenting the plate at the opposite face thereof and located midway between the side edges of the plate and terminating short of the spaced attaching means and adapted to be engaged by a pencil clip or pen clip 7 of the. ordinary construction. The head 8 of the engaging portionof the clip extends below the rib and the plate 1 is arranged between the engaging portion of the clip and the pen or pencil 9 as clearly illustrated in Fig 9. of the drawing. By this construction a pen or pencil is held firmly in the pocket and is prevented from accidentally droppihg out of the same. The device is adapted to engage a plurality of pen and pencil clips and there is no liability of the pencils being thrown out of the pocket when the wearer runs or stoops. The device may be made of any suitable material and as it is located within the pocket it is concealed from view and out of the way.
What is claimed is i As an article of manufacture a pocket attachment comprising an elongated plate, means for securing the ends of the plate to the rear wall of a pocket, and an elongated rib projecting from one side of the plate, said rib extending longitudinally of the plate between said fastening means for engagement by the heads of one or more pen or pencil clips.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ZEB. S. FLOYD.
