W. D. DAVIS.
FIRE STARTER. APPLICATION HLED FEB.23. 1916.
1 9 l ,7 80 Patented Feb. 20, 1917.
WILLIAM DANIEL nA'vIs, or itasfiwiniiaenkanses. 1'
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM D. DAVIS,
' a citizen ofthe'United States, residing at 1 Nashville, in the county of Howard and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire- Starters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fire starting machines in which coal oil, gasolene, or any combustible liquids .may be used in starting domestic fires in wood or coal stoves, furnace or fire place with perfeot safety and ease; and the object of my improvements are, first, to provide a gas tight tank with a combination filler-plug and funnel attached, equipped with air valve, and handle with hook, and so arranged on a main stand supported by three legs and adjustable to any stove or furnace by means of a flexible hollow wire or tube, as to be safe, cheap, durable, convenient and practical.
Second, to provide facilities for the proper adjustment of the quantity of fuel used, and third, to so arrange a combination of improvements in a fire starter in such a compact way as to make it possible to set the machine on stove, adjust to fuel, open feed valve and'light in five seconds and the spraying nozzle will start fire in wood or coal in a few seconds.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing,
in which the figure shows a sectional view partly in elevation of the fire starter in operative position on a stove.
Similar numerals refer'to similar parts throughout the view which forms a part of this specification.
The main stand 9, its three legs 12, and
oil tank 5, connected by feed pipe constitute .the frame work of the machine;
Attached funnel 2, is screwedinto tank 5" and thus remains The filler-plug 1, passes through funnel 2, and has hole in center and y when turned to left a few rounds, a pm in lower end strikes lower end of funnel and stops, this raises a gate and. allows oil to pass through into tank 5, air valve 3, allows,

. air to pass out as oil passes in, rendering it very convenient in filling tank. The ollpasses from tank5, down through.
feed Pipe 6, by opening feed valve 7,thenc V througha gage tip 8,tha|t adjusts the quantlty of oil required without having to adjust it with valve 7. j j V The gage tip has cone at bottom and hole through cone which catches the sand and frequent cleaning. The hollow wire connections '10, are screwed into main stand 9, and the flexible hollow wire'll, is fastened to connections10, and by the; use of the flexible wire,.the machine is adjustable to any stove or furnace.
- The oil passes through the flexible hollow f wire 11,,to the spraying nozzle 13, and when lighted soon forms gas I and the natural draft furnishes air and the combustion is complete in a short time.
When fire is started out offv feed valve 7 v V and removeto another stove or hang up by handle and hook 4, until wanted again. I am aware that prior to my invention, fire starting machines have been made to start fires with coil oil, gasolenevand combustible liquids, usinga tank. and burner claim such a combination broadly, but I clalm the 'COI'IlblIlEltlOII in a fire starting ma 1 j chine having the following new and im proved features: 1
' 1. A fire starter comprising an oil supply tank, a combination funnel and filler-plug cured to the tank, a rigid feed pipe c0nn ec ted to the .tank, a stand secured to the rigid feed pipe, a spraying nozzle, a flexible hollow wire connectmg the spraying nozzle to the rigid feed pipe, said rigid feed pipe equipped with a feed valve, and a. gage plug in the feed pipe, substantially asdescribed.
2. A fire starter comprising an oil supply tank, a combination funnel and filler plug attached to the tank, said tank provided with an air vent, a valve controlling said vent, a combination handle and hook se- 100 a as V cured t0 the tank, a rigid feed pipe conbody and three curved legs screwed into the nected to the tank, a stand secured to the body in triangular position, substantially rigid feed pipe, a spraying nozzle, a flexible as described. 7 10 hollow Wire connecting the sprayingnozzle' WILLIAM DANIEL DAVIS. 5 to the rigid feed pipe, said rigid feed pipe Witnesses:
