To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that T, JARED A. RYKER a citizen of the United States, residing at alena, in the county of Howard and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful 1mprovements in Portable Fences, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to fences and more particularly to portable fences.

The leading feature of my invention is to provide, in a device of the class described, a novel means of holding and supporting a barb wire directly over the fence adapted to save time in applying the barb wire upon its support without much effort or special skill.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing two of the panels folded together. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the wire holders.

Referring more particularly to the drawing land 2 represent the correlated panels which when joined together in series, as will be hereinafter described, form the complete fence. The panel 1 consists of a rectangular frame embodying posts 3 and horizontal members 4 all preferably constructed of metallic tubing. Covering this frame and connected to the posts and horizontal members is a panel 5 consisting of interwoven wires which may be connected to the posts and horizontal members in any suitable manner. A U-shaped frame 6 has its opposite legs hinged to one of the posts 3 so as to fold thereon and is covered with a panel of interwoven wires 7 such as is shown. This U-shaped frame 6 with its panel 7 constitutes the hinged or gate panel 2. The fence is supported in operative position by driving the steel pegs 8 into the ground and fitting their reduced upper ends 9 into the lower end of the hollow posts 3. These pegs 8 have limiting collars formed adjacent their upper ends upon which the posts are adapted to rest.

eral movement and to take the strain off of the pegs I provide struts 11 which are constructed from tubular members having flat apertured ends 12 and 13 arranged in substantial parallelism so that the end 12 is adapted to fit over the upper end of the posts 3 while the lower end 13 will lie flat upon the ground and receive an anchoring peg 14, as shown.

The post 3 opposite to the one having the panel 2 hinged thereon is provided with suitable catches 15 which engage the free end of the U-shaped frame 5 so as to hold all of the panels of the fence in alinement. These catches may be disconnected from the frame 5 so as to allow the panel 2 to swing, whereby the same may be utilized for a gate.

When desired to hold a barb wire strand above the fence each post is provided with a support therefor consisting of a substantially inverted J-shaped member 16 the long leg of which is provided with a shoulder 17 adapted to enter the upper end of the tubular posts. The short leg terminates in two reversely extending hooks 18 lying side by side and slightly separated so as to permit the insertion of the wire. To insert or remove the wire it is only necessary to give it a slight bend toward the vertical when it may be conveniently placed in or removed from the space between the hooks.

lVhat is claimed is A device of the class described consisting of a pin, a shank of larger diameter than said pin formed integrally thereupon so as to provide a shoulder between said'pin and shank, said shank being flattened out at one end and bent around to provide a hook shaped portion, said hook shaped portion of the shank being formed bifurcated so as to provide a pair of stems, one of said stems being bent upwardly and rearwardly to provide a hook, and the other being bent downwardly and rearwardly to provide another hook terminal, said hook terminals of said stems being in substantial alinement.
