HARRY DON DAVISON, OF STEVENSON, WASHINGTON.
FOLDING CAMP-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
Application filed September 28, 1914. Serial No. 863,925.
To all 'w 710m t may concern Be it known that I, HARRY D. DAvIsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stevenson, in the county of Skamania, State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Camp- Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stoves, particularly to cooking stoves for camp use, and has for its object the provision of a stove for camp use which may be taken apart for convenience in transportation and which consists of a frame work disposable over an open fire for supporting the articles to be cooked.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character pro vided with means for preventing swinging of the food supporting grid, the said means being shiftable to hold the grid in an inclined position.
A further object is the provision of a device of this character which is formed of a minimum number of parts, which is therefore extremely simple and inexpensive, easy to set up and take down and a general improvement of the art.
IVith these and other objects and advantages in4 view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device, Fig. 2 is a top plan View, Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the grid in an inclined position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the numeral designates one upright post and the numeral G designates another upright post which form the supporting portion of my device. IThese posts are formed preferably of iron in the form of rods or tubes and are pointed at their lower ends, as shown at 7, to facilitate their insertion into the ground. Secured upon the `upper portion of the post 5 and the post 6 are hooks 8 secured thereon in any suitable manner, and disposed below the hooks 8 are eyes or loops 9 secured thereon in any suitable manner. The post 6 is further provided with a second eye or loop 10 disposed between the hook 8 and the eye 9, for a purpose to be described. A
The grid portion of my device is formed rectangular in shape and comprises a plurality of wires 11 which are connected at their ends by transverse wires 12 which are provided upon their ends with loops 13. The wires 11 are secured to the wires 12 in any suitable manner, though the connection may be that shown in the drawing.
In order that the grid portion may be supported from the upright posts, I provide hangers 14 which may be formed of a single length of wire bent and twisted intermediate its ends to form a loop 15 and provided upon its ends with hooks 1G.
The device is assembled by placing the upright posts 5 and 6 in the ground a suitable distance apart with the hooks 8 facing each other, engaging the hooks 16 within' loops 17 in the cross bars 12 and then engaging the loops 15 upon the hooks 8. The grid will then be disposed between the uprights, as shown in the drawing. Swinging of the grid is prevented by means of links 18 provided upon their ends with hooks 19 and 2O engageable within one of the loops 13 on each cross bar 12 and within the adjacent eye 9 on the post. The grid will thus be held stationary and secure and is consequently adapted to support articles to be heated or food to be cooked over an open fire built below the grid and between the posts.
In some instances it may be desired to hold the grid in an inclined position, in which event one of the links 1S would be disengaged from the eye 9 and engaged within the eye 10, as shown in Fig. 4. In case it is impossible to have both of the uprights in a vertical position, owing to rocks and the like, the grid may be held in a hori- Zontal position by engaging the link 18 in the eye 10, proper adjustment being of course made.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawing it will be apparent that I have thus provided a simple, novel, and inexpensive camp stove formed of a minimum number of parts which may be carried in an extremely small space and with a great degree of convenience, which may be quickly and easily set up for use and which is adjustable to permit of a horizontal or inclined position of the grid.
It will be readily understood that I reserve the right to make various changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit o the invention or limiting the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In a camp stove, apair of stakes adapted to be driven into the ground in spaced relation, each of said posts having an upwardly turned hook adjacent its top, one of the posts having a plurality of eyes arranged in vertically spaced relation below the top hook, a` grid, invertedV V-shaped hangers having loops at their apices engageable with Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of =Pa`tents,
vided Wth a hook engageable with the eyesselectively.
In testimony whereof, I aliix my signa-- ture, in the presence of two Witnesses.
