To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADoLr BELEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Burner for Fluid-Heaters and the like, (Case F,) of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to burners especially designed for use in connection with Huid heaters utilizing lgas as a fuel.

@ne of the objects of the invention is to provide a burner, the parts of which can be readily cast, said burner being made up of but few pieces and being capable of utilizing large ports for the escape of gas withv out causing a flare-back or explosion within the burner such as would ordinarily occur where large orifices are employed.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and 1nl the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a conduit upon one end portion of which are cast flanged base members 2 which communicate, through ports 3, with the interior of the conduit 1. Ears l are extended laterally from the base members 2, while extending longitudinally from one of these base members at that end thereof remote from conduit 1 is a supporting lug 5. An arm 6 is extended laterally from the conduit l at a point between the base members 2 and terminates in a supporting lug 7. The supporting lugs 5 and 7 together with the conduit 1 are adapted to Specification of Letters Patent.

rest upon a support, thus to hold the burner properly positioned under a coil C of a heater H which, as shown in Fig. 1, can be supported close to a domestic boiler B.

Resting upon the walls of each of the base members 2 is a screen 8 formed of sheet metal and having parallel spaced corrugations 9 each of which is formed with parallel transverse slits 10 constituting vents for the passage of gas therethrough. These corrugations extend upwardly toward cover plates 11, `one of these cover plates being provided for each of the base members 2. Each cover plate has a laterally extending hollow portion12 and depending flanges 13, the said flanges resting on the marginal portions of the screen 8 and cooperating with the walls of the base members 2 to bind on the screens and to hold them in position. Ears 14.` extend laterally from the depending portions of the cover plate and are engaged by fastening boltsl or the like which also engage-the ears 1. Each cover plate may be formed with a longitudinal hollow extension 16 at one side adapted to abut against the opposed cover plate. These extensions are closed at the1 sides and ends but communicate with the spaces between the cover plates and the base members.

Formed within each cover plate above the hollow laterally extending portions, are ports or vents 17 extending through nipples 18 cast on the cover plates. Additional ports 19 and nipples 20 can be arranged on the plates near the inner or adjoining edges thereof.

It will be seen that by utilizing a burner such as herein described, the gas will be supplied to the interiors of the two base members 2 and will flow upwardly through the slits 10 to the spaces above the screens from which it will escape through the ports 17 and 19, the gas being ignited at the upper ends of the nipples 18 and 20. By providing the screen shown, there is no danger of the flame flaring back into the conduit 1 and, consequently, comparatively large outlet ports or vents can be employed in the cover plates.

A burner such as herein described is cheap to manufacture inasmuch as all of the parts can be readily cast and can also be kept clean because the various parts. can be easily Separated. By having the base members 2 and the cover plates 11 spaced apart, air is free to pass upwardly through the middle portion of the burner, thus tov cause complete combustion of the li'uel. Air can also be admitted to the conduit l in the usual manner through ports, not shown, in the enlarged portion 22 ot the conduit. What is claimed is l. A gas burner including a conduit, spaced base members carried thereby and Vcommunicating therewith, cover plates secured upon the base members and having lgas vents, there being an air space between Y'side projecting up to the opposed cover plate, there being an air space between thel cover'plates and their longitudinal eXtensions. and above the space between the base members, said cover plates having gas vents. 8. A gas burner including a conduit, spaced base members carried thereby and communicating therewith, a screen mounted upon each base member and having parallel upstandingcorrugations formed with trans verse slits, and cover plates bearing upon the marginal portions of the screens and clamping them upon the base members, said cover plates having gas vents, there being an air space between the base members and extending upwardly between the cover plates, said air space being surrounded by the gas ports or vents.

A gas burner including a conduit, base members integral with the conduit and spaced apart, cover plates detachably .secured upon the respective base members and each having a hollow longitudinal extension at one side extending up to the opposed cover plate, ther(x being al space between the cover plates registering with the space between the base members, each cover plate having a series of gas vents extending transversely thereof` and into the hollow extension.
