LAMP-CHIMNEY CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2%, 1916.
Application filed May 17, 1916. Serial No. 98,083.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT C. FARRELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kintyre, in the county of Emmons, State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney Cleaners; and I do hereby declare the tollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in lamp chimney cleaners, and has for its object to provide a device of this character constructed in such a manner that it can be readily inserted in the chimney with a cloth engaged therewith and rotated so as to thoroughly clean the inner surface of the chimney.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cleaner of this character which consists of a plurality of arms formed from coil springs which are so mounted that they will conform to the interior contour of the chimney.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more. fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through a lamp chimney showing the device engaged therewith. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates the handle which has engaged therewith the lower end of a rod 2, the upper end of said rod being provided with a plate 3, said plate being provided with radial arms 4, preferably 5 in number.
Fixed to the rod 2 and adjacent the handle 1 is a plate 5, said plate also having radial arms fixed thereto, said arms being designated by the numeral 6, and corresponding in number to the arms 4.
The arms 7 are formed from coil springs and have their lower ends connected to the arms 6 and their upper ends connected to the arms at, said arms being normally bowed outwardly and are held in spaced relation by a circular coil spring 8 which is connected intermediate the ends of the arms 7. It will be of course understood that the arms 7 correspond in number to the arms 4 and 6.
In use a damp cloth is placed over the device which is then engaged in the lamp chimney and rotated, and since the arms 7 are formed from coil springs it is obvious that they will conform to the contour of the chimney so that the entire inner surface thereof will be engaged by the cloth. The device is then removed and a dry cloth substituted for the damp cloth so as to dry the chimney.
What is claimed is A lamp chimney cleaner comprising a handle, a rod carried by the handle, a plate secured to the upper end of the rod and having radial arms carried thereby, a similar plate secured to the rod adjacent the handle, coil springs having their upper ends secured to the arms of the first named plate and their lower ends connected to the arms of the second named plate, a circular coil spring connected to the springs at points intermediate their ends, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof. I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT C. FARRELL.
