Description

S. P. DORKINS.
PLOW A'TTACHMI-iNT.
APPLICATION FILED JAN-5.1918.
Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
wIUWIH w k SAM PINKNEY IZORKINS, 0F SALTl'DA, SOUTH CAROLINA,.
PLOW ATTACHMENT.
To ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAM 'PINKNEY D on- KINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saluda, in the county of Saluda and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attaehments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the .letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to plows. It has for its object to provide a bed or shoe adapted to support a detachable and replaceable.
plow point or blade, either of the shovel, half shovel, or other type;and also a standard or stock of any-suitable approved type so that a relatively l-ight or heavy stock, vmay be used, as desired, as may be best suited for the particular character of plowing or cultivationto be performed. For the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, the invention consists in a bed or shoe having features of construction hereinafter particularly described and then sou ht to be clearly defined by the claims, re erence being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a plow embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the bed or shoe Fig. 4 is a rear view with the'plow point.
or blade attached and the stock in section;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one form of plow point or blade, detached.
In the drawing the numeral 1 designates the face-plate of the bed or shoe which is l'ormed with vertically extendingslots 2 and 3 for the reception of a bolt 4 for attachment of a point or blade 5 to the face-plate and-to permit vertical adjustment of the point or blade to compensate for its wear. The bolt 4 also passes through the stock 6 which may be of any approved type, the stock beingIformed with slols 7 and 8 corresponding'to the slots 2' and 3 of the faceplate so that the bolt may be adjusted correspondingly to the adjustment of the plow pointer blade, and may be shifted from the Specification of Letters Patent.

'tion with the landside win eal recess or socket 15 whlch receives the Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
position shown in full lines to the position shown in dotted lines, in Fig. 1, as .the plow point or blade wearsand is lowered to working position. From the rear of the face-plate extends a landside-plate or wing 9 which is formed in one face with a recess 10 to receive a landside extension plate 11 which has at its upper forward portion an overhanging part 12 which bears against the rear inclined edge of the landside wing 9 so that when the landside extension plate is attached to the landside wing by a bolt '13the landside extension plate is held rigidly to the landside wing and against any movement relatively there-' .to.
The rear of the face-plate l at a point spaced from the landside wing 9 is formed with an enlargement 14 which in conjuncforms a vertistoclc 6, and bolts 16' passed through-openings in the landside wing, the enlargement the other, to suit the work of cultivation to be performed. For the purpose-of affordplow point or blade, and incidentally affording a wearing surface, a plate or offset 17 is located at the side of the face-plate and landside wing so as to project forward of the face-plate and have the edge of the plow point or blade abut against the same as in dicated in the drawing and thus prevent the plow point'or blade from turning or twisting on the bolt 4 which attaches it to the face-plate of the bed or shoe. This abutment may be cast integral with the bed or shoe, or attached thereto by the-bolts which attach the bed or shoe to the stock.
The attachment-bed or. 0e described makes it possible to conve one type or style of plow into another by merely substituting one stock for another to suit the .ing a retainlng' or bracing abutment for the One bed or shoe dtlier efore answers for different plows an,
admits of attachme'ntto many of the different standard types of metal stocks now in use.
Having described my invention and. set forth its merits, what I claim is:
1. A plow blade supporting attachment comprising a bed-plate provided at one side with a rearwardly extending land-side wing and an off-set projecting forward of the bed-plate on the land side, the' bed-plate be:
ing formed with a socket made in its rear face to receive a plow-stock, the Wall of the 7 socket next to the land-side and the opposite wallserving to brace the stock.
2. A plow blade supporting attachment comprising a bed-plate provided at one side with a rearwardly extending landside wing formed with a recess in one face, a landside' with a rearwardly extending landside wing, a landside extension plate having an overhanging portion at its upper edge overlying the upper edge of the landside Wing, and means for securing. the extension-plate to the landside wing.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
